The West Hartford, CT Neighborhood Market will be closing. It didn't last too long.

Only one in CT and not surprised. It couldn't compete with Big Y and Whole Foods across the street. It also didn't fit with the area and its demographics.

The location was also terrible, in the back, unvisible from traffic on the main road and located in the basement of bishop corners.

I'm not surprised. That entire area has been declining for years. In fact, Summit Place Mall is now completely vacant now that Sears pulled out in 2014.

One I just noticed on this list is the Supercenter in Hartland, Michigan. I'm not surprised, as I just checked on Google Earth and their parking lot was only 1/4 full, while the Meijer across the street had a half-full parking lot.

Looks like Meijer there was successfully able to beat Wally World into dust.

Putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work and plunging the country into a deep depression. Plus where are the Senior Citizens supposed to work? According to AARP Walmart and Home Depot are the two top employers of Senior Citizens.

Walmart isn't going anywhere...they are just closing under-performing stores like every other business does. And it's pretty certain Sears/Kmart is going to continue to die off as stores are sold and leases come due.

In fact, they extremely rarely close any stores at all, this one was a huge surprise. They aren't the only company that extremely rarely closes anything either...Meijer has only ever closed like eight of their supercenters and in all but two cases to replace them with newer nearby stores.

The big takeaway from the closures is that the Express format just wasn't working. It was a distraction for them (although not nearly as much as Canada was for Target) and they decided it was time to pull the plug and focus on more successful formats. They plan to build dozens more Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, so the net number of locations of their bread-and-butter stores is expected to actually increase over time.

Another blow to the Derby Walmart, the Adjacent Adams Iga is closing in September.  This shopping center will lose 2 anchors in 2 months. If I'm not mistaken, the Adams was previously a local chain called Klarides. From what I can find, they had another location in Seymour in its own plaza called "Klarides City"  Derby was open later, I think they moved to the where Lowes/ Dollar Tree is now, before closing. they sold out to Stop and Shop because they could not compete. Would love to see pictures of Klarides and the swept wing Caldor
