Run-down Shopping Centers

What are some run-down shopping centers? By run-down I mean how the buildings look and not whether or not you agree with the businesses that are in the shopping center.

1. Walmart Plaza - 235 Queen Street Southington, CT. This plaza is managed by Cedar Realty Trust. While there is only one vacant spot in this plaza, the outside of the buildings need to be fixed up. The last time anything was done to the outside of the buildings is when Walmart painted the exterior of their store brown during the big remodel in 2009.

2. Shoprite Plaza - 750 Queen Street Southington, CT. This plaza is owned by Cornerstone Properties of Farmington. While there is only one vacant spot, the outside needs to be fixed up. They let Shoprite, Moe's, and Buffalo Wild Wings build new facades, but the rest of the plaza they didn't. They also replaced the roof on only half the plaza.

3. Bristol Farms Plaza - 1235 Farmington Ave Bristol, CT. This plaza is locally owned. The two anchors are Hobby Lobby and Big Lots. They made a nice facade for Hobby Lobby last year when they combined 2 stores into one. The rest of the plaza which is vacant aside from a Hair Salon, a Chinese Restaurant, and a Dental Office.

4. Bristol Commons 99 Farmington Ave Bristol, CT. This plaza is owned by Elk Investments. It's just UGLY.

What about ShopRite Plaza in Bristol? ShopRite's façade itself is just old and I can't see why they couldn't at least paint it and replace the sign with their new logo. It would make a difference. They have the new logo out on the pylon sign on Farmington Ave. Also, the rest of the plaza could use a steam-clean. The building is just very dirty. It's a pretty busy plaza.

There is also the Best Market plaza in downtown Newington. They can't seem to move forward with fixing the building and especially the parking lot.

The Ocean State Plaza in Berlin is still quite rundown. They continue to make minor improvements. The parking lot is just a mess.
