The Taylor Retail Center is located in the Detroit-area suburban community of Taylor, Michigan, at the southeast corner of Eureka and Pardee Roads near Southland Center. As of August 27th, 2014, the only vacancy is a total of 28,800 square feet surrounding a new Lumber Liquidators in the former Media Play store, but that will soon be filled by Sky Zone and Party City.

Here's the site plan, including the adjacent South and Eureka Plazas (source):

Current Tenant List:

  • Big Lots (southern structure)
  • Dick's Sporting Goods (southern structure)
  • Petsmart (eastern structure)
  • Lumber Liquidators (eastern structure)
  • Charter One Bank (soon to become Citizen's Bank) in it's own outlot building.
  • McDonald's in it's own outlot building.
  • Panera Bread in it's own outlot building.

History
The Taylor Retail Center began in 1981, but not as a shopping center-the local Guaranty Savings Bank erected a branch and corporate office at the southeast corner of Eureka and Pardee. Sometime in the early 1990's Guaranty was acquired by Charter National Bank and the corporate building was demolished in 1994 or 1995.

The Taylor Retail Center itself began construction in 1995 and opened in 1996.

1996 Tenant List:

  • Circuit City (southern structure)
  • Galyan's (southern structure)
  • Petsmart (eastern structure)
  • Media Play (eastern structure)
  • Charter National Bank in it's own outlot building.
  • McDonald's in it's own outlot building.
  • Rio Bravo Cantina in it's own outlot building.

The first major change took place in December 2002, when Rio Bravo shuttered permanently. The building remained vacant for 12 years until it was retenanted this month by Panera Bread. A short time later, Charter National became Charter One. Then, in late 2004, Galyan's was acquired and rebranded by Dick's Sporting Goods. The next major blow came in January 2006 when Media Play shut down. Afterwards, another fatality came on March 8, 2009, when Circuit City closed for good. At that point, the Taylor Retail Center became half-dead and staggered, with the only major change being the complete remodeling of McDonald's circa 2012...

...enter Big Lots-it operated an existing store a few miles west at Inkster Road, but in 2013, it closed that store and relocated to the former Circuit City space, thus commencing a significant turnaround for the Taylor Retail Center. Next, Panera Bread announced earlier this year that they would be opening a new location in the former Rio Bravo and just this month, Media Play was subdivided into three smaller spaces-the center one is occupied by a newly-opened Lumber Liquidators. Sky Zone (an indoor trampoline park) and Party City (relocating from the nearby Kohl's-anchored Cross Creek Plaza) will be opening soon in the other two spaces.

This power center has had quite a history, even for being in existence for only 18 years!

Taylor PetSmart is closed for an indeterminate amount of time because of unspecified "emergency conditions" at the store.

The pet supply store is at 23271 Eureka Road, within the Taylor Retail Center.

It’s unclear exactly why the store is closed, but it reportedly did not open Thursday morning. A sign on the front of the business said it's closed due to "emergency conditions."

A PetSmart spokeswoman said the closure had to do with a recent inspection, but did not elaborate.

"We discovered the store needs repairs, which require that we close the location until further notice," PetSmart spokeswoman Erin Gray said.

Two employees were situated outside the Taylor building Thursday afternoon to inform potential customers the store was closed.

Gray encouraged PetSmart shoppers to visit the business' Woodhaven or Dearborn stores in lieu of shopping at the Taylor location.

...and it's been torn down.
