A rundown plaza in Springfield, Mass was just sold and is expected to get a massive make over. New facades on all the buildings, parking lot improvements, and new landscaping are among the plans for the plaza on Liberty Street.

Editors note:

Based on the sign for the plaza show in the picture on WWLP's page I have never seen a shopping center with so many junk stores in it - BIG KMART, Ocean State Job Lot, Savers, Dollar Tree, Joeyz Shopping Spree - all junk stores. Along with both furniture/appliance rental stores - Rent-a-Center and Aarons.

Actaully, it's surprising that it doesn't occur more often, since while those stores could be looked at as competition in some cases, they also would seem to work well together, since they often will have different merchandise available.

Kind of like having an area wide garage sale or a flea market - everyone is trying to sell what they have, but more people will be attracted with a number of sellers in close proximity, as if one doesn't have what they want, others may.
