Isn't this the Market Basket website?

http://www.mydemoulas.net/

A common misconception; clearly he is trying to pass his site off as official, but note the disclaimer:

"MyDemoulas.com, MyDemoulas.net, & MyDemoulas, LLC are not owned, operated, or maintained by DeMoulas Market Basket, Inc."

You know that Market Basket is on a roll when they want to expand a store that isn't even open yet...

Moving from its current Somerset Plaza location to the former Sears/Kmart store in the same strip center, that is...

That not very surprising given what happened in Londonderry.  You can bet that as soon as Kmart closes in Portsmouth the same thing will happen.

why do you say Kmart will close?

It will close one day or another.  The store is always empty and it could happen like it did in North Conway, Gilford or Londonderry, stores are just waiting to jump on that future empty space.

Like most Kmart and Sears locations, it's likely toast as soon as the lease is up. SHLD is less an operator of retail stores than it is a hedge fund/REIT. The highest and best use of nearly any space current occupied by a Kmart or Sears isn't its current use by a long shot.

I agree that this Kmart escaped several store closing rounds.  But Kmart has closed dozens of stores one by one in the past few years when the lease is up as mentioned by retailisking.

Market Basket renovated several stores elsewhere but this locations remains untouched so I assume that DeMoulas is waiting to see what happens with Kmart and they may know when the space could become available before investing in the current store.

Is it me, or does that smallish flat-screen TV look a bit forlorn?

Here we go again: Hannaford throws a monkey wrench into the works, this time to halt the Market Basket project in North Conway
http://www.conwaydailysun.com/index.php/newsx/local-news/93162-grocery-wars-hannafords-launches-legal-challenge-of-rival-store

Is it good for Hannaford to constantly trying to block competition to come?

Customers must be thinking that Hannaford wants to keep their market share and charge higher prices..

And actually, Market Basket is one of the worst offenders; they usually target Stop & Shop. Hannaford has a technical basis for their complaint re: North Conway, but the plans were the way they were because of the restrictive covenant Shaw's already had in place. Hannaford knows this, of course, and they're playing their card for all it's worth.

The last segment on the 6:30AM episode of Extreme Couponing on TLC this morning featured a teenage girl who got $925 worth of stuff at a New Hampshire Market Basket for under $95!

Looks like that Market Basket in North Conway won't be happening anytime soon...
http://www.conwaydailysun.com/index.php/newsx/local-news/94695-judge-gives-hannaford-standing-in-case-against-conway

Is it only Hannaford that is against almost every new Market Basket (fighting in court to block them)?

It certainly seems that way, doesn't it? Then again, Hannaford has the most to lose by Market Basket gaining a foothold in prime Hannaford markets.

Imagine the prospect of having to demolish a brand-new store if you lose a court fight with a competitor...

I wonder if Hannaford is at least partially funding this campaign; they've done it before...

I live 2 miles from there and how come we need a MArket BAsket when we have Hannaford and Super Walmart.
