Marc, if you ever are near the Berlin Turnpike in Newington, stop in to the Walmart. This is probably one of the most neglected, understocked, dirty and disorganized Walmarts in the central CT area. Not to mention they have many rude employees to boot. My family refuses to shop there now. The Southington one is very nice though.

For a dept. store, I go with my mom up to the Cromwell Kmart. It may be an older, outdated store, but it is neat and organized, they usually have enough of each item they sell, their sales are good, and most of the staff are pretty nice to deal with, especially at customer service. I'd say the Cromwell Kmart is one of the best Kmarts left in CT. It seems to do well enough.

Per the Northeast Time this week:
Walmart will be closing its location on Franklin Mills Boulevard (which started out as a carrefour) and be moving to the vacant boscov's store (Which was Steve & Barry's for a year or 2 afterwards) in Franklin Mills Mall and will be a Super Walmart.

Hmm..I didn't see this until I responded in the other thread. I guess Franklin Mills is getting some life back in it. I wonder if they will have a mall entrance as well. In other cases of Walmart moving into malls, they don't always leave a mall entrance. Also, will be interesting to see if the Pathmark (former SuperFresh) goes bust in the same complex.
Not good for the strip centers that border the mall though. Now, I was real young but I remember a Service Merchandise being around the mall. Was this in the carrefour space prior to Walmart? Was there anything else there in between Carrefour and Walmart?

EddieJ1984

Yea I was thinking too that the pathmark there wont have too long once the super walmart opens. Also I would say the mall is cetaonly doing good now since a couple years ago, when you would always hear rumours that the mall will close.
For the females, it has a regular victorias secret, a huge forever 21 (it took up the whole side of stores where that tropic concession stand was).
The only glaring vacancy the mall still has is that closed pharmor, and some of the main food court (where johnny rockets was, still empty).

After Carrefour left the USA, their building was split into several stores.  Service Merchadise was located in the Boaters World location, by Raymore & Flannigan is currently.  Bradlees was the far end by Super Fresh/Pathmark.

Walmart will be expanding into the Regal Cinemas space in Falmouth, ME after a long tussle with the Planning Board.  Still to be determined is how long the Regal will be lingering, especially with a state-of-the-air six-screen cinema set to open next week in Freeport.

That store sure is small. The majority of stores in Maine are now Supercenters or larger than their original size.  The Falmouth store used to be a Kmart and the Cinemas was originally the Kmart Food store.

The food stores next to Kmart in Falmouth, Scarborough and Auburn (at least) were Shop 'n Save.

Okay. It's been 9 or 10 month since the article about the expansion of The Bristol, Connecticut Walmart first appeared in the paper. They were supposed to have a public hearing about it, but I never heard anything. In the meanwhile they have not expanded nor have the remodeled.

Walmart in Newington, CT will be adding a 27,000 Square foot addition. They will be demolishing a Basset Furniture Store in the plaza to accomplish this.

U beat me to this so I assume its going to be a supercenter (if walmart even still uses those type of stores). I remember when walmart first wanted to come to newington, they wanted to build a supercenter, but the town rejected that.

I wonder what will happen to Basset.

I read a Walmart Neighborhood Market will open in the former Adam's, previously Edwards store in West Hartford, CT.  There seems to be an over abundance of food stores in that town.

That's because all people do in that town is shop. I know, I work in one of them. Uggh!

I don't know who the landlord is, but on April 4th there will be a Foreclosure Auction on the property in New Britain, Connecticut where Walmart operated its store until 2009 when they shut down the store. The property includes the former Walmart building, which is somewhere between 80000 and 87000 Sq. Feet and a Bank of America Branch. Both buildings were originally constructed in 1973. Starting bid is $300,000. Whoever is the winning bidder has to pay the money to the bank. The landlord stopped paying the mortgage in May 2011.

Here's the Walmart Plaza website on the Landlord's website. It looks like they're also going to have to knock out Staples to expand Walmart. http://retail.vno.com/property_home.aspx?propid=49

This is the site of the former K-Mart/Shop 'n Save which opened in 1972. K-Mart vacated the space in 1997, and Walmart came in a year later. The vacant Shop 'n Save space was taken over by a Flagship Cinema in 1995, which was bought by Australian cinema operator Hoyts in 1997 and then by Regal in 2003 when Hoyts exited the US market. In subsequent years Cinemagic (a resurrection of sorts of the old Canad chain, which itself was bought by Hoyts in 1997 and sold to Regal in 2003) has taken the Portland area by storm and Regal has now completed its exit from the Portland market; they are down to two theaters in Maine in Brunswick and Augusta.

Walmart Neighborhood Market is looking to take the former Shaw's in Bristol, Connecticut.

I guess that means plans for the expansion of their regular store in Bristol fell through.

About time...they expanded the grocery section of the existing WMT a few years ago but it was rather underwhelming. The store is seriously undersized and doesn't offer the variety that most WMT shoppers expect. Between this and Market Basket possibly coming to town, things are about to get interesting for Hannaford and Shaw's.

I've read that Walmart would now be the anchor store at the proposed shopping center in Seabrook.  A Supercenter would replace the initially proposed Target store.

After a LONG battle, Napanoch, NY store breaks ground. You have about a week to get your pictures of the former Ames and Grand Union buildings...

A hearing will be held in January regarding the building of a 2nd Walmart in Manchester, CT on Spencer Street on the site of the former KMART. The new store will be a Supercenter. A hearing the other night went until Midnight without a final decision. The owner of Shoprite Plaza across the street is looking at suing Walmart.
