The Newington Wal-Mart is poorly designed in the "non-clothing" areas. It would be nice to see a change made for this store. If you go there at busy times, good luck trying to get around.

The Southington Wal-Mart is indeed a fairly well designed store. The aisles seem wider as well.

No word which other stores in CT will be remodeled next year. However I heard renovations are done every 7-10 years. I supposed that may also mean others could close and move to bigger locations.

Well, the Newington Wal-Mart will be 8 years old next September, so we'll see.

I totally agree about the Newington Walmart, they need to do something about parking too.  The isles are very tight, Maybe they will be on the list for a remodle, that would be nice.

From what I've been told about the Southington Walmart renovations..... The store is supposed to be redone top to bottom. Their gonna try to make better use of what little space the do have. All the registers will be replaced too. And the manager of Subway is trying to get them to put in an electric gate because the Walmart 3rd shift crew is always stealing stuff from the restauntant. Cups, mop buckets, etc. When they were doing that SCRABBLE PROMOTION earlier this year they stole a bunch of the game pieces.

And if so many of you from this board go to the Southington Walmart why not say "HI" to me and introduce yourselves?

Walmart in Newinton has history. All goes back to early 1990's when Walmart first came to CT (Manchester first location). Walmart wanted to come inot Newington in the early 1990's and they wanted to build on the old Hartford Drive-In. I live right behind that property and the neighbors got a lawyer and fought back and the Town refused Walmart to open up their and even changed the zoning where no retail could use that lot.

So the current Walmart on the Pike, is considered a "Supercenter" even though they dont have the full food thing. My freind works at the Newington Walmart and she saids bc of the size and value they do they consider it a Supercenter. Origianlly it was suppose to be a Supercenter, but Newington rejected it bc they didnt want it open 24 hopurs.  That Walmart is clutter and i hate they moved the freezers to a crappy place. I really never go in their, i prefer Target.

not all Wal-marts are  24 hours!

I do remember that they wanted it to be a supercenter.  I wish it was, but with Sams club moving and Aldis up the pike I don't know if it would do as well as some of the others. Lots of competion.

Marc do you work days or nights or both?????

scottw73

I think a Supercenter would do well in Newington, the nearest Supercenter is in Wallingford at a Former Super Kmart  The Fishkill SuperCenter has a Sams Club right next door, and a BJ's and Stop & Shop up the street as well as a Hannaford and Shop Rite.

Wasn't the Newington Walmart once a Bradlees?

Yes it was. Before that it was a Two Guys (before my time) and Bradlees opened there in 1982 and closed in 1996 (it was a victim of the chain's 1996 closing of underperforming locations). It remained vacant until 2001 when Wal Mart opened.

I wish it was a supercenter but with the size of the building it just wouldn't work, they would have to move into the Basset furniture which still is open in order to be workable.

Where was the freezer case before???I know the jewrley moved to the front of the store but don't remeber much else about the previous setup, I do shop alot of Walmarts.

Here is the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Turnersville, NJ, it was the first Wal-Mart discount store ever in New Jersey when it opened in 1991, and in 2005 it was expanded to become the first ever Supercenter in NJ.

there was supposed to be a super walmart built in riverhead, ny.  I recently heard that the plans got knocked down by the town.  All I know is that the majority of walmarts on long island are dumps.  we surely could have used a new one.

Wal-Mart's in negotiations with the Town of Brookhaven for a location in East Patchogue.

This is not going to be pretty with the choice of location. For Walmart to happen here, someone's going to have to reconstruct Hospital Road and the bridge over Sunrise quite a bit to alleviate Brookhaven Hospital traffic.

Wal-Marts of this design were built 1981-1984. Notice the ugly logo. The star in this pic used to be a hyphen. Ugly how they painted it too.

Mobil

This is the general 1987-1995 style. Ones with the hyphen (not the star) were built until 1992. Ones with McDonald's were built in 1993 or later. There was one near me that opened in 1987, but was remodeled in 1993 with the new logo, and has since moved to a Supercenter.

Another one opened with the first design you see here in 1984, but moved in 1990. This one moved again in 2007, and had a McDonald's added at some point. The logo was never updated.

Mobil

A few of them built around 2000-2001 had this design. There was one near me that opened in 2001, and was repainted tan in 2007.

It said on their website that the second logo here was introduced in 1981, but I would say it was more like 1986. Their logo in 1981 was the first photo here.

That's not right. Search up ''Wal-mart sound center ad 1982'' on Youtube, and you'll see that it has the second logo

CTAmeshopper

they should revive that "WAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLMAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRTTTTTT"
jingle from their really old ads. :insane:

The Wal-mart supercenter in West Mifflin PA.

This store has just received a new fleet of carts not to long ago. The new ones are metal and bigger. The old ones were plastic and small.

Walmart price stickers from 1991

I'm not sure what store these came from, but based on where I lived at the time I'd say Claremont

I hate Walmart but this takes me back a little, I remember when all Walmarts looked like this, and back when I almost never used to see Walmarts. The first time I ever saw a Walmart was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (1989)

Mobil

Early 80's Wal-Mart in Durant, Oklahoma. These stores almost all relocated later in the 80's. There were two in the Houston area that opened in 1984 in the same plaza as Kroger greenhouses. I know of at least three that are now Big Lots.

Wow, a 70's style Wal-Mart. There actually is one that survives in Hempstead, TX with the original logo!

videogamer75

Here's a pic I found on Flickr of a really, really small Wal-Mart with the old logo. Location unknown.
