marc82, said a wal-mart in new britain was there from 1997 to 2002 and where was it and was it bigger than the current one.

AmesNewington

It's a good thing our Newington store opened the same year (2001) as the new small one in NB opened. That store is way too small.

I agree the one in new britain was small and when I walked in I could see the whole store. the one in southington was small too. well they were both caldors. what made me mad was I went in the one in bristol and one of the clerks there did not know if they had raincoats or not.

It's interesting that you guys don't like the New Britain and Southington Walmart's because they are small because a friend of mine who moved to Connecticut 5 years ago says he likes the small Southington Walmart better than the giant Walmarts/Walmart Supercenters they had in the areas where he used to live/work - Reno, Nevada/South Lake Tahoe, California. I also had to explain to him and his wife what Caldor was.

I never said I dislike them, but the advantage of them being small is it is easier for older people and makes it faster for people on their lunch break (which is when the drivers are hurrendous) can get in and out faster.

An unknown gunman opened fired outside the Walmart in Putnam, CT early Friday morning as people waited outside for the PlayStation 3 Release.

I think SONY is stupid plain and simple. I can think of better things to do with $600 besides buying a stupid game system. For Example I want to buy some new clothes and buy a laptop computer.

Walmart on Queen Street in Southington is making some changes. All the carpeted areas of the store have been replaced by faux wood floor. Any other Walmart's doing this? And why are they doing this?

AmesNewington

The Newington store did this last Spring (around April). If Southington is doing the same thing, you'll see a lot done. Tell me if the following happens:

-They paint the walls brown
-They remove the huge colorful department signs and replace them with smaller blue and black ones

Also, they might move clothing departments around. For instance, the women's department could be moved to where the men's department is now, the men's department may be moved to the back where the Infant/Toddler area is, and all infant/toddler and kids clothing may be moved to the middle area where the women's department is now.

I have no idea if Southington will do all of that, but this new design is what Wal Mart's new design is. I go to the Southington store with my family if we go to Price Chopper and don't have time to go all the way to Newington. Your Wal Mart resembles a Caldor or Ames (probably because it was Caldor) with no warehouse ceilings, which is nice.

Update me on what happens.

Ah-ha! I was going to ask about that walmart.... I remember seeing it in a commerical and thinking it looked pretty funky... Good to see someone has a pic of it, rather than having someone go picture hunting.

WALMART is going to be shutting down it's first Connecticut location which opened in Manchester in 1992 and will replace it with a SUPERCENTER in nearby South Windsor.

Report: Wal-Mart purges magazine rack

BENTONVILLE , Ark. (Jan. 18) Wal-Mart reportedly has decided to remove more than 1,000 magazines from its stores.

The New York Post reported that the company is thought to generate more than 20% of all retail magazine sales in the United States.

The Post reported that most of the magazines are small, or discontinued titles such as Child, Celebrity Living and FHM. However, some big names, including Better Homes & Gardens, Parenting and Town & Country, will no longer have a place on Wal-Mart shelves.
