Sorry I've never actually been to West Mifflin, actually only been to Pennsylvania a handful of times, I just meant the building style in general. I live in New Hampshire, and haven't seen a Toys R Us look like that in at least 15 years now, outside of commercials on Nickelodeon's Double Dare

XISMZERO

Impressive old photo C3. What I love about that picture is that there's a good handful of Pizza Huts still look like that today.

About old-school stores, the one in Boardman, OH looks like the former W.Mifflin store except for the spaced logo. Also, Clay, NY is still striped on the outside. Check earlier pages for photos.
All submitted photos were taken by myself unless stated otherwise.

I have seen old school Toys R Us stores on Double Dare and Finders Keepers on the Nick GAS channel. I also saw some old KB Toys ads from the 80's during Finders Keepers. Pretty cool.

Toys'R'Us launches in-store consumables shop

WAYNE , N.J. (Apr. 29) Toys"R"Us has introduced "R" Market, a new, dedicated shop featuring an expanded assortment of consumables and commodities in select Toys"R"Us stores nationwide. Located at the front of more than 260 of the company's 585 Toys"R"Us stores, "R" Market will roll out to additional locations across the country later this year.

Products available in the "R" Market include snacks, beverages and laundry and cleaning supplies.

"As part of our business strategy, we are continually focused on improving the shopping experience for customers in our stores. This includes looking for new ways to provide busy parents with the convenience of finding everything they need for their kids under one roof," said Jerry Storch, chairman and CEO of Toys"R"Us. "The introduction of "R" Market offers customers a uniquely edited presentation of differentiated, kid-focused products from well-known manufacturers, as well as newer brands."

The "R" Market is called out with in-store signage featuring the iconic Toys"R"Us reversed "R" logo and a shopping cart with bursting stars.

I AM VERY VERY VERY UPSET that the Toys r us in Topeka kansas got renovated last year and I found out it did after it was renovated.  Today I almost got in an accident over it bothering me!!!!!!

When I travel to see Brown Toys r us' see the brown Toys r us is PROITY NUMBER ONE AND I WONT GO HOME UNTIL I SEE IT ONCE I START THE TRIp. I also have 2 days of in a row of work and if my flight is cancelled and if they can't me there by 2-2:30 pm or 2:30-3 pm, I WILL HAVE THE TRIP RESCHEDULED ( will I still have to pay the fee as my trip was delayed) and if I miss my connection due to a short layover, will they let me go home without a fee if I Feel they will get me there so late the trip is in vain (either the next plane there leaves hours later or there is no room the next flight or the next 2 or 3 flights leaving there), and credit the unused part of the trip, AND IF I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO STICK OUT THE TRIP,I JUST WONT GO HOME TILL THE TOYS R US IS SEEN. OR IF THE FRONT DESK FAILED TO SET MY WAKE UP CALL AND I LOST SO MUCH OF THE DAy, i would extend the trip to see the Brown TOys r us

here is what the Brown Toys r us in Savannah GA looks like after they put hte Babies r us in.

I like both the old and new designs of Toys "R" Us.

BTW, the giraffe's name is not "Jeoffrey",  it's "Geoffrey". You misspelled his name in your blog about the Bowling Green, KY, Toys "R" Us.

I have a Toys "R" Us store here in Green Bay, WI, you should check out. It is called 'Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us.'

what did the Toys ru s in Green Bay look like before it became GEoffrey, Purple and when was it renovated from the old school Brown look?

This is what it currently looks like.

It had a brown roof with the xylophone-esque stripes until 2003, when it was converted to Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us with a blue wall on the corner entrance. The wall of glass to the right of the entrance had a playground and party room behind it until last year. The store is beginning a slow process of being converted back to just Toys "R" Us. This location was probably built sometime in 1981 or 1982.

About Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us:
from Wikipedia
Retailtainment stores named for Toys "R" Us' mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe, offering toys, juvenile merchandise, and children's apparel all in one location. Other features include a "Studio G" activity center. Mostly found in the American Midwest, but are also found in Texas, Mississippi, and North Carolina. The first store under the "Geoffrey" banner opened in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, but eventually closed because of poor sales figures. Two other remaining Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us stores in Wisconsin still exist in nearby markets in Northeast Wisconsin. Other locations include Louisville, Kentucky, San Antonio and Austin, Texas. Each location had a playground at the front of the store. These stores are currently in the process of being reverted back to regular Toys "R" Us stores as of spring 2008, although the name still remains. Most locations had playgrounds, and a photo studio or haircuts at select locations.

A news article on this largely abandoned store concept:
Geoffrey opens retailtainment door (October 2003)

All Geoffrey's Toys "R" Us locations:

Green Bay, Wisconsin
Louisville, Kentucky
Austin, Texas
Selma, Texas
Jacksonville, North Carolina
St. Matthew, Kentucky (converted to Babies "R" Us)
Appleton, Wisconsin (converted to Toys "R" Us/Babies "R" Us)
Onalaska, Wisconsin
Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (closed)
Clarksville, Indiana
La Crosse, Wisconsin
Meridian, Mississippi
Abilene, Texas

Most had brown rooftops at one time, the location in Louisville has a blue roof, instead of a blue wall with orange trim.

I have not. as I only need to get the outside.
Management cannot take away the camera!!! THAT IS STEALING! like if someone walked into your house taking pictures, would you just take their belongings

WHICH TOYS R US DID THIS HAPPEN AT. I am trying to find more brown ones. I Went to a brown one in Grand RApids Michigan last summer and a manager told me there are 75 stores like theirs and they never made it to a new (or the new or whatever) Standard.

By NICHOLAS CASEY

Toys "R" Us Inc. said Wednesday it was acquiring FAO Schwarz, a specialty retailer known for its high-end toy catalog and two big stores in New York and Las Vegas. Toys "R" Us didn't disclose the terms of the deal.

In an email Wednesday night, Toys "R" Us Chairman and Chief Executive Gerald L. Storch said he wished to maintain the "distinctiveness and integrity of FAO Schwarz's stores and brand."

In a subsequent statement, the company said it planned to keep the company largely intact, continuing to operate its two stores, catalog and electronic-commerce Web site. The stores will keep the FAO name.

Recent years have proved difficult for the small retailer as it has tried to compete with growth in the toy aisles of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp.

Sales declines at FAO were followed by two bankruptcy filings in 2003. In 2004, the investment firm D.E. Shaw & Co. purchased the company, then winnowed down FAO's stores to its current two. In May 2008, FAO announced a deal with Macy's that would bring small store-within-a-store operations at 600 Macy's operations nationwide. This arrangement will end in November as part of the sale.

In the past two decades ownership of FAO has changed hands several times. Two years ago, it tried diversifying its offerings by acquiring Best Co., a fashion-oriented children's clothing company, but the economic downturn posed a number of challenges, people familiar with FAO said.

Toys "R" Us will lend its extensively larger buying clout to offer a slightly broader appeal to FAO's toy offering, the people said.

It was one of the ones in Toledo, OH. According to a manager friend, the "no photography policy" is to protect the privacy of customers and the "children" that shop there. TRU's way of covering their horse's behind in case pictures end up on some sicko's computer.

I am still upset the one in Topeka KS got a BAbies r us / Toys r us side by side conversion due to it no longer being old School. I am very upset that I got renovated after I found it got renovated / was being renovated!!!

I agree with both of you. The new stores may not be as good as the old ones, but both are great. I just wish they could just keep the old look on the outside while updating most of the interior.

If I were a retail designer, I would make sure that most new Toys "R" Us stores utilize the best of old and new Toys "R" Us architecture. I would also consider bringing back the brown roof, but with real shingles, instead of the fake ones, as well as the multicolored planks.

I AM EVEN MORE UPSET THAN EVER ABOUT THE ONE IN TOPEKA KS GETTING THE BABIES RUS COMBO AS IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY REMODELED!!!! I AM SOOOO UPSETTTT, I saw pics of it on virtualearth and it was a good looking brown Toys r us, but it did not have the geoffrey logo!! I AM SOOO UPSETTT! But then I Fear of this, if it was not remodeled the trip would be connecting flights (I have to to get there) and fear that if I had a short time to change planes and only seat I could get is near the back and fear the flight attendant wont cooperate with letting me off and saying I have to wait like everyone else (Someone or some people can slow the whole boarding down big time) and if it puts me in danger of missing my flight they would say I may have to take the next flight, OR if the plane gets there late and fear taht they wont get me there till sooo late that I wont even have time to see the Toys r us.

I WISH I kenw all the existing brown toys r us' locations and are there any brown ones in PEoturo Rico?
