Milford, Connecticut store as of July 13, 2007.

The store is right off the I-95 ramp, Exit 40. It was built in 1983 and was an "L-corner" style store (hence glass exit) which likely was remodeled after 2000. The entrance to the parking lot is weird as it's narrow and one-way. You'd have to exit from behind the store.

Old-school breakroom has the Geoffrey spotted walls! The store was up to date, painted a periwinkle color like most stores today but still had an upstairs manager office from the old days.

Wow, what they do to the TRU in Milford. They changed the breakroom. It was so old school before.

Explain what it looked like before this! The spots must be old because I found like giraffe spots at the Toys R Us in Horseheads which was an oldie of a store.

I have further discovered more information about stores in Connecticut. Waterbury (Wolcott Rd., since relocated) was the first store in the entire state having possibly opened in 1980 or 1981. West Hartford opened on October 1981. Milford opened in 1983. I cannot find a year on East Haven but it must've opened in the early 1980s, possibly the same or one year after Milford. Does anyone have more information on East Haven? There are pictures on the first pages but I cannot find out when it was built.

Topeka, Kansas.

I got a tip off by searching on Webshots then used this program thanks to Dan Fife. I'm guessing it was built in 1985.

Here's a newspaper advertisement from The Hartford Courant about TOYS R US. The West Hartford store was the second store in Connecticut having opened in September 1981. The first was Waterbury, year built unknown.

Make note of the other stores at the bottom which were all around in 1981!

hahha, good ad!!!! 120 stores east coast in 1981!!! wow. Someone from my college (he is 35 and told me WAterbury is a pit, I almost got jumped there once and In Bridgeport I almost got jumped) told me Waterbury opened in 1979.   MASS SEEMS TO BE A RICH MARKET FOR TOYS R US Indeed. Toys r us opened in Manchester in July 1981 and Warwick, Framingham, Auburn and Peabody opened in 1978 and Springfield opened in 1979 or 1980. Toys r us did enter much of the western States until like the late 1980s or even early 1990s.  But Toys r us did not enter the Buffalo Ny / Rochester NY/ Erie PA / Pittsburgh PA / Northeast Ohio (cleveland, akron, youngstown, Canton) part of the USA until 1985-1987 and did not Enter Indianappolis / Kentucky / Cincinnati markets until 1984 and did not Enter Denver and salt lake city until 1990. entered Miami in 1982 or 1983 and ORlando in 1986. ddi not enter Columbus ohio and Dayton until 1985. oklahoma city until 1985. did not enter St Louis until 1989 and Minneapolis market until Fall 1989 and did not enter Kansas City until 1988. did not enter Pheonix until 1987, Fargo until 1995, WEst virginia until 1988, alaska untul 1993, not enter Memphis until 1991!. Toys r us entereed Phili in 1981! TOYS R US opened Albany NY in 1978 as well as some Long Island stores. something said one in Detroit, Milwaukee and Baltimroe opened in 1973 and it had 10 stores in Chicago in 1973.

Find more please ads. I hate how some newer ones were smaller.  Wyoming is the only state without a Toys r us.

Dan: I cannot find any evidence that the Waterbury store existed before 1981 as there are no news print ads here. The earliest advertisement I'm seeing from The Hartford Courant is September 1981, one month before the West Hartford store opened.

What is also odd is that I cannot find any evidence in these ads on Milford (1983), East Haven (83 or 84) and Waterford (presumably opened in 1984). Strangely enough, the ads note stores in other New England states (Mass and New Hampshire) but not the outliar Connecticut stores...

I have come to believe that Milford and East Haven were probably built in the same year. They both had the "L-shaped" corner style that the Manchester, NH had. Upon my research, the L-shape stores were discontinued by 83 or possibly 1984 at the very latest.
