vacant one in east hartford on the north side of 84.

Hmm...

If I'm not mistaken -- it is now an office building. They were tryinng to convert it to offices. That Friendly's  was mostly for EHHS students and the old Silver Lane location (my hang out) was for the Penny High students. The downtown East Hartford Friendly was the oldest (and the first to close).

I went to Friendly's for lunch before work on Friday.  (The one on Price Chopper's Property in Southington).  It's nice and the food and service was good. I liked getting a free sundae with the purchase of a Turkey Club Sandwich. The Chickern Quesadia I had as an appatizer was good too. My only complaint was that the soda was $2.09!!!!

It's a common practice in restaurants to overcharge for ~5 cents worth of sugar/water. My suggestion: stick with water. Save the soda money for a sundae or something

XISMZERO told me the same thing when I told him that I paid the $2.09 for the soda.  I gave up soda in favor of water last year for 7 1/2 months before I lost my mind and started drinking it again in December 2006.

They've begun to remodel the exterior of The Friendly's next to Price Chopper on Queen Street in Southington. I'd take some pictures but my digital camera is pretty much dead.

I don't remember Friendlys being expensive, and I haven't dined there in a while, but I love their food.

C. Fontaine

I don't think the Friendly's around me are that expensive, the food is alright.  I can imagine in more popular areas everything is marked up.  The only problem is, I have never gone there and not had a problem wth my food.  The service at my local Friendly's is terrible, and I know people that work there.  Always understaffed, your looking at at least 1/2 hour to get even ice cream.

Friendly's sells, leases 161 facilities

WILBRAHAM - Friendly Ice Cream Corp. has sold its headquarters campus on Boston Road and 160 of its restaurants.

But the company is now renting the properties under long-term leases, a company official said yesterday.

Friendly has sold the properties to subsidiaries of Realty Income Corp., a California-based company that specializes in buying retail properties and leasing them back to the original chains under long-term lease agreements.

I'm at a Friendly's at least once a month if not more. I've been to both locations in Kingston NY, 3 in Poughkeepsie NY including the ones that closed on Hooker Ave and at the 9 Mall (where Caldor used to be) and also Danbury CT and Middletown NY.
I like the food and the prices are decent. A lot of the chain sit down restaurants are a bit snooty and expensive.

I took my friend Tim to Friendly's (guys afternoon out) a couple weeks ago. Great food both of us for about $20. And I just got a coupon for completing their online survey to get $5 off.

beachgal26

We are only lucky enough to get there if we are visiting family in MD as there are none anywhere near us in TN.  Since we were just there in September, I have to agree that I do not think that they are expensive and you get a good deal for your money-along with some yummy food!

I have always made it a practice to check things on the check and it is always a good idea to point out something that does not seem "fair" and, in most cases, they will take it off or make it fair.

:yup:

The Friendlies I used to go to, last time I was there, I was sad to see they didn't have the conehead sundae's anymore. I ALWAYS got one of those no matter how stuffed I was from the food. Always had wonderful experiences with them.
Jaime...BRADLEES FOREVER!!!

I don't need to remember it, I go all the time.

Two of the Friendly's in my area closed a year and a half ago. At the same time, they opened a new one.

The Granite Run Mall has an AMC theater with four restaurants attached to it. All have died but Friendly's. Pizzeria Uno closed, then became Red Lobster, also closed now. There was a restaurant called Newport Grille, closed and became a local chain called Kildare's, which did not last long, now closed. And now there is a junky computer repair shop in this plaza.:flaming::huh:

This mall opened in 1974 and this part was added in 1987 or 1988.

This former Friendlys on Enterprise Drive in Bristol (corner of Route 229 across from ESPN) was vacant for somewhere between 10 and 15 years before the owners of The Pie Plate Restaurant in Waterbury bought it and opened Luiza's Diner. (Friendly's bought the old Waterbury Pie Plate). Luiza's has been opened 3 or 4 years I believe. This is the back of the restaurant. Pic taken today 2/21/09.

So I've found a small Friendly's Locations booklet dated from April 1991.  So if you're looking for the address of a former Friendly's locations or something else, just tell me!

Were any NJ locations listed? If so, where? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for looking so quickly. I guess the one in Wilmington relocated from Concord Mall. Funny since Brandywine Town Center (which is a mall) opened in 1991. The Friendly's there never opened until 2007.

The one in West Chester might be under "Chadds Ford", "Glen Mills", or the shopping center, Painters Crossing. It should be in there since it opened in either 1984 or 1990.

The one at Granite Run Mall was built in 1987, and is not actually in the mall. The signs at this one read just "Friendly"! I think that changed in 1989.

Cool, thanks. I just took a picture of the Clementon one a few hours ago.
