Here's the Target in Big Flats/Elmira, New York. This store must've opened late 2006 given that design of the store. Store smelled very prestine, shiny, and new.

For us Northeasterners, it's almost hard to imagine Targetm who started popping up in Connecticut around 1996, has been around as long as some of our former stars Bradlees and Caldor. Nice finds.

Target is currently in the process of trying to get the approvals to build a store in Southington, Connecticut which is the town I live in. If they get the approvals it will be built on West Street (Route 229). It's gonna be located really close to the I-84 Exit 31 off ramp. I saw the Planning and Zoing Meeting on TV last night and they were talking about moving the off ramp a little bit so it lines up with Hart Street so they could put a traffic light up.

In their 2006 annual report they write that at year end, they had 1,488 stores.

The company expects that the total U.S. store countwill be at about 2000 in 2011.

In longer term, the company thinks that thepotential for profitable U.S. Target stores may be as many as 3000 or more.

That's expansion!  Can't wait to see that.  Meanwhile, i don't expect to see Kmart opening new stores...

I work for target and don't think they are going anywhere soon. They can be a bit pricey but when they get rid of items-they mark them down quickly and to 30-90% off until they get rid of them. I just hope they don't overexpand. Even Wal-Mart is scaling back their expansion plans. Target offers nicer goods at lower prices but sometimes things are slightly more than a Wal-Mart or KMart but many folks feel it is worth a few extra pennies to shop in a nicer, cleaner, friendlier store than Wal-Mart.
