OH NO!!!!

You mean if I go to Maui I won't be able to visit Kmart?

retailisking

Speaking of their non-mainland stores, we'll know that Kmart is really done when they close their megastore in Guam.

IVe never been and when wll that close? They have no Walmart there. What year wll Kmart close. I went on a road trip where 12 Kmarts were closing and in that trip I went to the Original thats closing. many stores I go in feel like a flea market.

I hope they convert the Kmart in Guam into a Walmart or Target a few months after Kmart closes.

The former Kmart property in Bangor, ME has been bought by a car dealer, who says he has no immediate plans for it

I agree and that dream is karma. I used to stress of Kmart closing, NOW its so what and I Am expecting it as they let Kmart deteriorate so much. Wlll they make it to my next b-day, which is In March

Unless there's a co-tenancy agreement with the landlord, I think Applebee's will survive. I doubt the Kmart was providing much traffic for them, anyway. They're also a co-tenant at the still-open Kmart in Auburn, and they seem busy there. The previous landlord is based in California, and the property was their only one in the state. Hard to say if the Quirk family will put much effort into sprucing up the parking lot, at least until the Kmart lease runs out next year.

a friend of mines comment of that Kmart was when I said it was closing was "I am surprised its not closed".   also it was the first thing on that strip, ok Ironic how North of Bangor is nothing but trees and woods and moose and desolateness and that retail area in Bangor is the northern most part of Bangor, so that retail strip in Bangor is your last chance before Maine becomes trees and farm lands.

I imagine, judging by the fact that the scarred logo is the Big Kmart one, that that store's been closed for a LONG time. I know that, when At Home leased out the rest of the old Super K building in Elyria, the parking lot was a DISASTER AREA until the area in front of the store was resurfaced and relined. Once Kmart closes a store, I don't think they particularly care about keeping up with the parking lot. After all, nothing's there anymore, so why keep up the property?

Not a surprising development; in fact, I more or less predicted it when the Kmart closure was announced. Hannaford owns the plaza, after all...

That's a big negatory...

why so cause Hannaford wouldnt want a competitor?

BillyGr

Perhaps Hannaford just wants a larger space?

Here's another story with an artist's rendering of the proposed conversion. Yes, I think they want a larger (and more prominent) store. Who knows what will become of the existing Hannaford...

Target sells groceries as well, so yes. Plus maybe Target just isn't interested; the Act 250 regulatory hassle probably doesn't help. If you look at their new store openings, almost all of them are smaller urban locations.

Both the U-Mall and Church Street Marketplace are in the midst of redevelopment that will reduce their retail footprints.

Retail Fan+ (Justin Hill)

I predict that if the Kmart in Key West, Florida closes, that Walmart or Target would take over. I also predict that if the Key West Sears were to close, it would be replaced by Kohl's. These are just predictions.

The Kmart in Pineville, Louisiana (The shopping center sign is using Kmart Austalia's logo!):

I don't know why they're doing this! It's like an American Target store using an Australian Target logo, which I'm thankful never happens.

standa

Kmart used to have that logo in the US years ago, so that's probably why they are using it, if they never changed it.

EddieJ1984

Specifically that is Kmart's 1991 - 2006 Australian logo, so that is really odd.

The US's 1962-1991 logo didnt have mart italicized so that was a different logo used back then.
