I hate the Webster, MA Krapmart.  The floors are so dirty in some spots I don't even think bleach could clean it up.  Since Little Caesars closed I've had no reason to go there.  A few years ago they had some guys walk out with a big screen tv and no one even stopped them... and they got away.

thats theft, or near Grand theft. I have a friend from my college from Oxford who thinks the store is gross!   I read the store got expanded in 1992.
Haha no way, I live one town over!

i like Kmart but they need new direction to take them into the future and Sears is definetly not the answer. They could really revamp their stores and lower prices on their product and come up with a new logo and a catchy motto.

I agree... heres what they need to do:

1) Update stores, especially lighting, and store fixturing. Many of our gondola fixtures are yellowed. Simply cleaning up the place and painting would be welcoming to customers!

2) Change store-fronts. Make them more inviting. More lights in the parking lot.

3) Update cash registers. WAYYY too slow right now. We also need the credit-card machines where the customer signs them... printing eats up time.

4) Give employees radios. To make price checks easier and to get a hold of management quicker. As of now, for price checks we must walk to the service desk, call the department, wait for response, override the price, and call management to approve. This can take FOREVER especially on busy days....

5) U-Scans... more check-outs with less people.

6) Better management... our managers aren't too good with dealing with people.

They should, cause the Supercenter I went to was pretty cool and had a good selection of food.

It is finally happening, the kmart that has been empty for 15 years is finally going away, it will be nice to see something else in that plaza.

Here's a former Kmart in Middlesboro, Kentucky now a
Steve & Barry's. This is located in the Middlesboro Mall. It has a mall enterance. They have completely remolded the store. The only thing you can tell about it being a Kmart is the big white vents. This K mart closed in 2002. Not for sure when the Kmart was built. Looks like a late 1970's. The mall does too.

wiseguy93

Another Picture of the old Middlesboro Kmart. Steve & Barry's is a clothing store. All prices are $8.98.

Kmart isn't too great of a store now compared to Target and Walmart, but I don't want them to go out of business. They need to spruce up their stores, give the company a big overhaul, ADVERTISE more, and most importantly open up some new stores and get competitive! Same for Sears.

I agree, they need to be more aggressive, get their act together, roll out a bright new concept for all stores, renovations, opening new stores, act like a retailer...

Here's a picture of the nicest Kmart store in Maine, located in Auburn.  The store is large, clean, bright, well kept and shelves are full.  They just did a paint job of the exterior and it's already an improvement from the old gray building. It's no Target, but it's a step foward.

I like that Kmart too. It looks nice, clean and well maintained. All Kmarts should be like this. One thing that definitely has to go is the low roofs w/yellow neons and the recycled carts with Kmart stickers on them. I was at Kmart today, and noticed a bunch of carts with stickers on them....I was almost going to peel one off, but there were too many people around....lol.

Also, is it me, or are there a lot of shopping centers that are almost completely abandoned with only a Kmart?

Kmart now has a special page on their website for store remodels- Click Here for it. It has a few pics of the newly remodeled stores and a PDF list of the stores that have been recently remodeled.

That is awesome. I hope more Kmarts become that way. This is part of the overhaul I've been waiting for them to do. There also appears to be a lot of remodels in NJ, which is good.

Looks like a...........WAIT SEARS AND BEST BUY!!! The one in Toms River Needs new lighting. Period. The End.

Kmart apparently knows that the yellow neon lighting is bad, since the store remodels promise better and brighter lighting.

I wish Cromwell CT would get a remodel. Southbury CT is the only CT store getting one, but it probably needed it the most.

The Cromwell K-Mart reminds me of Ames a lot. It felt like I was in one when I visited this K-mart.

Kmart in Bluefiled West Virginia Built in 1993. Shopping Center is also anchored by Food Lion.

No KMart deserves a remodel more than ours.  You know how when they were attached to malls, they had Little Caesars' pizza?  Well, when Beechmont Mall was torn down, they promptly took action!  Did they take the Little Caesar's sign down?  Of course not!  They built a wall in front of the whole area!

It would seem Kmart stores not featuring full-fledged remodels will be getting the cheap remodel: a paint job. Holyoke, Mass. and Vernon, CT have been painted over in orange and tans.

Here's the Holyoke, Mass. one (a former WT Grant) I took July 20, 2008.

Hopefully my K-Mart (Toledo Oh, Reynolds Rd) will be getting remodeled.

A new "lifestyle center" (to replace a recently closed mall, Southwyck for you "dead mall" fans) is being planned down the road, and is attracting a lot of interest. The city has invested new landscaping and lighting on the street on which we're located to welcome this new development.

Our store is getting a new parking lot, to finish the look on the outside. Our K-Mart was painted in off-white/tan with orange trim after another location in the city closed to show that K-mart was here to stay. God I hope so... we need an update. We're in 5 mile radius of 2 Wal-mart supercenters, 3 Krogers, 1 Kohls, 1 Target and one Meijer.

The Palmer, MA K-Mart...  Notice the vertical windows, a look that many former Ames had.  I forget what former store used this design.  Anyways, it's attached to a big empty plaza along a middle-of-nowhere stretch of Route 20 here in Mass.

That's the one in Palmer. I think it was remodeled or repainted a few years back. Those thin windows on the front might suggest it was once a WT Grant. If so, it was probably moved in in the mid-70's.

There used to be one in Wilbraham about 20 minutes away, but it's gone now which leaves the ghetto Springfield one on the other side of town.
