i believe the thats the full name but i call it Key foods they poped up all over southern New York many were in former grand union locations

Yep - One in Pleasant Valley (in a former Grand Union, suprisingly enough) - don't think they changed much (even the carts still say Grand Union on the handles).

yea i still see the red Grand Union Carts there all the time with the logo still on they nevre changed the stores and they look so so so so so so cheep lol

Here a shot of the store mentioned above (Rt 44 & Main Street in Pleasant Valley).

They have at least 4 other locations as noted here:

- Main & Ben Haven Road - Highland Falls
- Quaker Avenue - Cornwall
- 268 Main Street - Beacon
- Route #6 & Baldwin Lane - Mahopac

there a chain of super markets that took over many fomer grandunions and actley rentavted them from what i hear there a pretty good supermarket there also a franchies like fast food places

Must be from a store somewhere in NYC. Visiting a friend in Manhattan, one of the local supermarkets wanted over $5 for a box of Hot Pockets! (Where I live, you can usually always find them for 1.99, if not less)

Not a good idea. The brand is damaged goods. Same reason why AHOLD won't (and shouldn't) rebrand Hannaford's as Stop & Shop. And why if Albertson's changes its mind in a few years and buys Price Chopper they should not rebrand the Connecticut Stores Shaw's.

Although the question is, are any of the areas that Key serves in NJ ones that actually had Superfresh stores (since that name was, at least I think, only in the southernmost parts of NJ, along with parts of PA and further south into DE, MD areas)?

So, many people in the areas that these stores are being created now most likely never experienced the "original" Superfresh stores (and may not even know that it was in any way connected to the A&P chain - in fact when A&P was closing, many people in areas they had existed but left over the years didn't even realize they still existed, even when the stores were only an hour or so away).

Key Food hasn't had the best luck with their previous ventures into New Jersey.   Maybe they were having more success with the stores that opened as SuperFresh, and decided that it was better to use that as a unified brand for NJ.   It always seemed curious to me that they were operating under so many different names.

I knew a fellow, now deceased, who was a sales rep for a Key Foods, unsure if the same company? He called on independent grocers, a dying breed for certain. I always wanted to ask him about his business...once I overheard his conversation with someone regarding a customer asking for a certain kind of canned hominy, and his difficult search to find it.
