Walmart and Costco rethink self-checkouts

Walmart and Costco are reportedly rethinking the idea of customer self-checkouts after a variety of problems which include increased shrink.

In addition to all of the mis-scanning or underscanning caused by either customer error or outright theft, the machines can lead to long delays when an item does not register properly or requires some sort of identification for purchase.  This has led to scores of customer complaints.  In some cases the machines are being removed.
