Coventry, RI closed today, leaving the chain in the single digit store count.

And more stores are closed yesterday (11-16-2017), leaving the count down to 5: article
This means Benny's only has one store in Massachusetts, and four in Rhode Island
Closed locations: The other Cranston, RI location, Fall River, MA (I almost went there), Plymouth, MA, and Dennisport, MA.
Benny's website hasn't even updated the closed locations yet too. Also for above, correction it was Coventry, not Cranston

It's over... Benny's is shutting down it's last store in Greenville, RI on Monday (Dec. 11). I guess this is the end of a era for us locals out here.  :-(

Well, as of 40 minutes ago, Benny's officially shut down for good, with their last location being located in Greenville, Rhode Island. (5pm, December 11, 2017)
I guess this ends this series on Benny's closings.

I guess this ends this series on Benny's closings.

I wonder what will move into those stores...

JJBers

This is from my flickr album on Benny's.
Quote
This was a family owned store chain based out of Rhode Island and operated in Rhode Island, Eastern Connecticut, and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Benny's was founded in 1924 in Providence, RI. It slowly expanded across the region in the coming decades. But as time went on, the influence of larger discount stores grew in the 1980's and 90's, Benny's manged to survive, mostly bleeding far out stores.

Then Amazon came in. Coming into their 90th anniversary, Benny's must've faced some troubles, and closed a couple of stores. Out of nowhere, on September 12, 2017, just two months shy of their 93rd year, Benny's announced they're closing all 31 stores by the end of 2017. Slowly as October passed on, the store count shrank from 30 to 15. By their actual 93rd anniversary on November 10, they were down to just 9 stores.

On December 11, 2017, Benny's shut down it's last location in Greenville, Rhode Island. The stores are slowly being converted to various other retail.
