When did turning 50 mean you're close to death?

My friend's Mom turned 50 in May 2016. She was looking forward to it. My friend threw 2 parties for her. One with all her friends. And one that was just the family - the Mom and her two sons.

Right around Thanksgiving 2016 she had a stroke.

Then during the summer of 2017 she spent 12 days in the hospital.

I saw her right after the new year. She looked like hell and she had a handicap parking pass in her SUV. (Something she never had before).

Then I saw her last Sunday. She was looking better. She was grocery shopping with her youngest son.

Then today I saw my friend and he told me his Mom went in the hospital on Friday, got out Saturday, but still wasn't feeling too well today. He really didn't want to work today, but since he's the only one in his family who works he had to go in. His Mom can't work because of her health problems. His brother works limited hours and contributes nothing to the household.

Guess that means I'm 4 years past death.   ;D

All kidding aside, I hope your friend's mom will be okay.
My brother had a stroke at 41 but he made a full recovery.
