One question: does the transaction count tell only that day, week, month, since opening, or other timeframe?

Transaction #: 9314 (I'm assuming that was not for the day. :D)
It couldn't have opened more than a decade ago, if there were only 9,314 transactions per year.

Silver Spring is a very nice suburb in the DC area and should have had good foot traffic.  Since I'm not sure when they opened, it may have only been open for a short time before Ames went out of business or it may have been a Zayre.

it was Zayre

Yes the 2000# stores was Zayre stores except Sanford Me was 904
