Comet is a new digital subchannel started by MGM and Sinclair Broadcast Group that specializes in science fiction programs.

MGM and Sinclair Broadcast Group (Sinclair) have announced the name for the Sci-Fi diginet that both companies have teamed up to create, which will be called Comet TV. It'll debut next month. There's not many details about Comet TV, but some of the programming is enclosed. I suspect a mixture of current and classic Sci-Fi content will be included. More info below.

Like I mentioned above, there's not too much information about Comet TV. If you receive MGM HD, I suspect (just a guess) some of the movies that air on there might air on the new diginet in non-HD, like Flash Gordon (1980), Logan's Run (1976), Cherry 2000 (1988), Future World (1976), Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988), and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eight Dimension (1984) and much more. It'll feature more than 1,500 hours of content. Sinclair will own the network, while providing MGM content.

Some of the programming will include Stargate, Poltergeist, The Outer Limits, Dead Like Me, and much more.

COX Cable (both the Manchester and Meriden systems) carries WZME 43-1 on Channel 75 but has never carried their subchannels. 43-2 was originally SINO-TV a Chinese language network and switch to Retro when ME-TV took over 43-1. Retro got bumped to 43-3 after The Works took over 43-2. A dispute led to the removal of Retro from WZME and all stations owned by NRJ which are operated by Titan TV. And 43-1 is supposed to become Heroes and Icons this Sunday.  :( :( :( :( :( :( If that's still the case they haven't told ZAP2IT.COM as they still have the ME-TV listings for the channel.

Comet is coming to my local CW affiliate, WCWF-TV 14-2 which is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, also the parent company of Comet.

Will someone please bring this subchannel to Detroit?

I am already ruling three stations out.

• WKBD and WWJ, as both are owned by CBS, who seems unwilling to even think about subchannels at all other than Decades.
• WADL, as I believe it's going dark next year.

I am also surprised that it isn't at least going on WNWO 24.3 so that it can serve the southern part of the Detroit market, as WNWO is owned by Comet's owner Sinclair.

Well, it's a good thing I can pull in WNWO if I move my antenna to a point along the second-story railing. I can never get WSMH here at all, likely due to co-channel interference from one of CHWI's two transmitters.

I was surprised that it popped up (as 6.3, listed above as the Schenectady NY station) yesterday when I was going through the channels without any sort of "rescan".  Also since prior to this 6 was the only one of the main 3 networks (plus PBS and CW) with only a .1 and .2 option so it wasn't a change of programming but a totally new subchannel.
