Does anyone know whcih town is the king of former stores(Ames, Caldor, etc) buildings, that are still vacant. I think Manchester CT is! The Kamrt, Bradlees, Heartland are all still vacant! I think the Ames store in Manchester might be being used, bought dont know, havent driven around their? I know their old Caldor is Kohls, and their Service Merchandise is Micheals and a pte store.

In Auburn, ME:  There's a vacant Wal-Mart, a vacant Ames, a vacant Porteous department store and a vacant Service Merchandise...

I would also say Manchester, CT.  Although the Ames is being used.  You can see it in our Manchester photo gallery.

Evansville has 4 vacant K-Marts, Two Vacant Builders Square's, Two vacant Furrow's, one vacant Target, One vacant Shopko, and one empty older Wal-Mart.  Very sad in deed.

Now all we have is 2 Targets, Two Wal-Mart Supercenters, two Home Depot's and two Lowes......no K-Marts at all!!

I would say Waterbury had a lot of vacant stores around 1998-2000 when Naugatuck Valley Mall was closing

they had vacant Caldor acually possibly in 1999,Bradlees well maybe later, old Barnes & Noble that moved,a lot of vacant stores in the Naugatuck Valley Mall vacant anchors Sears,G.FOX a huge amount of small mall stores closed.

The old Kmart closed and moved to its current location, I believe Service Merchandise closed around 1999 due to the malls demise, I believe an old Stop & Shop closed due to moving,a pet store closed in the old plaza, the old American Steakhouse possibly moved out for demolition of the plaza to make room for the new plaza that houses their smaller building, I think there was a Staples in the same plaza as Caldor was that closed to move to the Naugatuck Valley Shopping Center being planned, along the road some businesses small ones closed, a truck stop around the area possibly an old Sunoco station closed which is now a Citgo station.

Or maybe its Torrington,CT present day

Our Downtown is filled with "for lease" signs where stores were housed almost more than possibly half the builidings are still vacant!:o

in Stop & Shop plaza a closed moved China Shop, a Stride Rite(remember them?) and Belltone( I believe the stores called that) oh don't forget Portofino's! they moved out due to high rent, now in Massachusetts, now called Villa Mia,also right across from the plaza is a HUGE stone production factory that closed down still for lease/sale

In Torrington Parkade a closed Ames, a few small stores in the covered section of the plaza have closed down

In Torrington Plaza a huge The Big Party closed down one section is now occupied by Maurice's a high-end clothing store
and a laundromat called Magic Wash or something used to have an old-school 1980s video game in there I believe it was Astroids or Space Commander or some silly thing like that, also Red Lobster in that Plaza has closed its labelscar keeps reminding us of what used to be there :hurt::(

across from Forbes School a still vacant IGA yet at night the lights inside the store are on and one time in winter there was a path shoveled leading to the back of the store, something is definately going on in there

Upper downtown many old vacant buildings also a closed town martial arts center and I believe another laudromat

around Kmart there is another HUGE factory up for lease/sale:o

thats all I can think of right now

:)

Newington CT is not even close 76&AmesfanmanBBTB ! Service merchanise and Ames are both being used! The only building left empty is Caldor, but Sams Club is moving in! Newington has pretty much everthing, Walmart, Target, Lowes, etc. FRom 96-00 i would give Newington this prize, everything was closed during this time!
