Ames's flagship store, Sturbridge MA

Does anyone know what this Ames used to be? It looks like a former Kmart or maybe Kmart Foods. This was actually Ames store #1, must have been their flagship store. It looked nicer than most Ames.

Yeah I drive by it often, it looked great when they had the signage up.  I'm not sure what it was, it opened in the 1970's.  It is Ames store #1, although technically their first store was actually in Southbridge one town over.

It looked like a former Kmart to me, of the 1969-1974 style. Possibly a former Kmart Foods.

I don't think it was a Kmart.  That kind of brick (and color) does not look like something from Kmart , the Kmart arches were all along the front of the building, and i don't think that Kmart stores had storefronts with shingle roof.
