Macy's to open 30 small-format stores in strip malls

In a major shift away from their traditional department store model, Macy's has announced that they plan to open 30 new small-format stores in strip malls.

They claim the smaller stores will be more efficient to operate, and moving to strip centers will help to counter one of their biggest problems, declining foot traffic in malls.  The new stores will be about 20% as big as a traditional Macy's store.
