What NEW STORE in your LOCAL MALL do you HATE?

Nah. Wheaton has the wards that became the 2 level target. Montgomery currently has Macy's, Sears, Nordstrom, and a Old navy/Macy's Home Store combo in a 2000 closed JCPenney.

What I hate in malls is the current trend to have people at the center aisle kiosks that are attacking you as you walk by and want you to sample whatever is they are selling.  It never looks like anything I would want and you have to just pick up the pace and get by as quickly as you can.

I also agree with an earlier post as the ridiculous number of jewelry stores in malls.  I'm not talking about Claires and those type of boutiques, but does our local mall really need 8 really nice stores??  Who could possible buy that much stuff???

I am in complete agreement with you, beachgal. Last time I went with my kids, EVERY SINGLE ONE of the phone people accosted me with offers, I told them thanks, I LOVE my cricket phone and the service I have. Then I turned a corner and 2 women with LOOFAS jumped me and tried to scrub me down to the floor. I barely escaped, and someone said, "wanna sample our cheese?" I said oh hell no and I grabbed my kids and ran off to the food court where I knew I'd be safe...no S'barros though...had to settle for McDonalds...

I wouldn't say "hate" since I don't feel that level of strong disdain about mall stores. If we change the topic a tad, let's change that to "annoy"... if you characterize it that way, I can't stand (about malls)... so much I've come up with a "shopping list" worth of it (pardon the pun).

- All the jewerly stores in malls. At my local mall, Westfarms, which doesn't entirely count as it's one of the "richer" malls in the state, there's about 15 jewelry stores.

- Silly stores: stores that attempt to serve a "niche" market but you're surprised they can pay their monthly rent (and some can with their exorbitant prices for certain things). Like "Teavana" -- seems like a pretentious tea version of Starbucks.

- Those asian junk store boutiques where everything is tacky looking, cheap, always 50% off and looks like the store is clearanced and closing up next week.

- Those obnoxious carts that clog up the center of the aisles. I remember a time when I was growing up, you could actually walk in the center of a mall's corridor. Now, you have to see piece of junk no one would buy this side of QVC. Every hair-extension, hair-straightener, hand-cream, face cream, head fleece and $10 knockoff sunglasses that should be a fraction of that price. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

- Forever 21: Always a mess and seriously, they must pay 3x the rest of the mall tenants pay for their outrageous lighting bill. Nod to DSW Shoe Warehouse...

- Lack of convenience stores/pharmacies/newsstands in malls. Westfarms is a target for this again. They, like most malls in my state, used to have CVS inside the mall. Now, you can even buy a pack of gum in the mall or a quick drink. Now with CVS pulling of malls for their own big box standalones, we're gonna see less of CVS at malls.

- Hollister's entire porch facade. Get over yourselves.

- Two Gamestops not including the one that might be down the street in a stripmall.

- fye. Enough said.

- Too much homogeny. Not enough comic book or indie-themed stores.

- Steve & Berry's: Junk, junk, junk. I get why they're so popular: all the "poor" college kids can snatch up the cheapest garb they can muster here so they can fashionably drag down my generation even further.

- Smug malls are getting smug about their private property (and not allowing people to take pictures) and high about their profitability per square inch.

Good topic, made me think a bit.

About Steve & Barrys...I'm not a "college kid". I'm a working 31 year old mom of 2. I buy my stuff there, I LOVE the statement t's in the men's department. I own about 15 of them so far. Funny shirts, good sayings, quotes...I also have a jacket from there, which is very comfortable, and durable. Their stuff is not junk, if you take the time to check them out.

Yeah that's one of my favorite stores in Westmoreland mall right next to Rockstar and Hot Topic. I don't really hate any store per se except Villa pizza since the guy who owns it is a total A--hole. As for any other store some stores I simply don't shop at not so much because I hate them but rather they're just not my style or don't have anything I'm really interested in.

People at those cellphone kiosks used to ask me to switch to whatever company they're selling for. Now they don't bother me. But to avoid them further, when my friend Paul and I went to the mall and he went to the Sprint kiosk to find out about something I stood about 10 or 20 feet away, so they wouldn't try to sell me a Sprint phone. I'm happy with Verizon, thanks.

As for the samples, that only happens to me in the food court. Must be because I'm a large guy. I don't like Cajun food. It's always Cajun Cafe when I'm at the Meriden Square Mall (I refuse to call it Westfield Meriden) that asks me if I want a sample. I try not to walk by those 2 Asian places either. I don't want a sample. If I want your food I'd buy it. Usually if I go to the food court in Meriden I get Cosmos or McDonalds.

It's worse at Brass Mill Mall in Waterbury. They have 3 or 4 Asian restaurants in their food court. When I was there right before Christmas with my friends all four had these perky Asian girls walking around the food court asking if we wanted samples. Of course Tim gave in and bought food for him and his girlfriend from one of those places, but Mikey and me got our food from Burger King.
