This is an easy one.  The three "first" stores for me where:

1. K-Mart  (0n St. Joe Avenue)
2. McDonalds
3. Pizza Hut

Funny thing is, we lost all five of our local K-Marts during the closing phase a few years back and I havent eaten at a Pizza Hut restaurant in at least the past 10 years. :tumble:

2. Target--my first *real, solid* memory of reading something.

For me it was

1. Mammoth Mart
2. Grant's
3. Star Market

These were the anchors in the shopping plaza down the street from me.

The Mammoth Mart became a King's and is now a Burlington Coat Factory

Grant's became a Save Rite and is now Ocean State Job Lot

Star Market was bought out by Almacs and then closed in the 1990's. The building was for a short time a Furniture Discount Store and now stands empty.

If I may add one more store it would be Child World which was across the street from the plaza. It was vacant for many years before being gutted and resurrected as a Pep Boys

I have alot more than 3, but here they are in order of those I miss the most:

1 - Woolworth
2 - GC Murphy
3-  EJ Korvette
4 - Robert Hall (clothing)
5 - Kinney Shoes
6 -  A&P food stores
7 - Ames/Hills/Gold Circle

(Nothing personal as I loved the last 3, but I shopped at the first 2 for over 35 years!  Oops, I guess that I just blew any cover that I had on how old I really am....)

I know that I really "date" myself when I talk about what I remember from my growing up in the 50's and 60's before most of you were born, but it was a great time for retail with so much variety that I will always miss.  Here's my top 3:

1 - EJ Korvettes
2 - Robert Hall
3 - W Woolworth

Honorable mention:

Bakers Shoes
GC Murphy
WT Grant
Musicland
Merry-Go-Round
Food Fair
A & P
And any place that gave Green Stamps!
