Shopko closing 39 stores, expected to file for bankruptcy

I think the stores on the list will be stores outside of the Green Bay/Appleton, Wisconsin area that have not been performing well in recent years. There's quite a few dumpy locations that are struggling that can be unloaded, both full-line and "Hometown" (including both former Pamida and ALCO locations). I know Shopko has dodged a few financial bullets in the past when closing their stores in Indiana and Nevada, as well as a few stores that were converted over from Venture and Jack's in Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.

Indiana has Shopko Hometown stores. Their larger stores, which were former Hills locations in that region, have closed over a decade ago.

And 1 in Cherokee the Kmart is cl osing too and that town has no Walmart. ok what went wrong?

Besides going up to my aunts because im excited to see her, I always look forward to going to the ShopKo (former Pamida) in Syracuse Indiana. That one is a Nice store itself!!!

I wonder if having a competing Dollar General or Family Dollar had anything to do with it...
