So Burger King is now selling grilled hot dogs.
Anyone here try them?

I don't eat a lot of hot dogs anyway.  As I get older I am trying to limit my
consumption of foods that are bad for me.  And on my list of foods that are
bad for me hot dogs don't crack my Top Five list of favorites.

I thought it was a bit of an odd decision as most fast food chains are trying
to simplify their menus.   I was at BK the day they started selling hot dogs and it
appeared to have triggered pure chaos behind the counter.

The only other time I can recall a major national fast-food chain selling hot dogs
was back when Arby's did so for a brief time in the 1970's.

I guess it would depend on what one considers a fast food chain.

I know A&W and Dairy Queen both offer hot dogs, and both also have what one would think of in fast food (burgers, chicken, fish, fries and such).

TheFugitive

Dairy Queen stores vary by the individual franchisee.  Some serve ice-cream only.
Some serve a limited sandwich menu but not burgers.

I had forgotten about A&W.  I had ordered hot dogs there when I lived in Michigan
in the late 80's.  They were a much bigger deal there than they are here.

McDonald's (at least in NE Ohio) tried them out for a period in the early 2000s

I was gonna try them today, but I thought better of it.  :P

TheFugitive

I was in Ohio when McDonalds test marketed pizza.   I liked it, but apparently it is
too difficult/time consuming to prepare.

Some McDonald's and Subway locations found in Walmart stores carry hot dogs alongside other foods associated with the Walmart snack bar.

At some Kmart locations, the Kcafes serve Nathan's Hot Dogs.

Burger King serves two kinds of hot dogs, a classic with ketchup, mustard, and relish, as well as a chili dog with chili and shredded cheese on top.

My wife & I recently tried a hot dog from Sonic. It may have been the worst I've ever ate; certainly, it was the worst "meal" I'd had in quite a while. Poor grade weiner, barely warmed. Yech!

For some reason I thought BK had offered dogs before?

TheFugitive

I agree with you on the Sonic dogs.....highly disappointing.

Some of the best hot dogs I have ever eaten were the ones we served in the
snack bar at Hills' Department Stores.  It was one of our signature hooks with customers
so they always made sure to order a high-quality wiener.

I will go to my grave smelling those hot dogs.   And the popcorn.

Burger King just added a Whopper Dog to its line of hot dogs.

I guess they are still an American favorite.
Can McDog be far behind?

TheFugitive

BK is promoting these for a dollar on July 2 & 3.
Probably the ideal opportunity to try one.

TheFugitive

Sprung for a buck and tried one.   Not great.   Very chewy/rubbery.  As if it had been left
on a rollo-dog machine for an extended period of time.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as I presume due to the dollar promotion they
made a large number of these ahead of time.

I had one about a month ago - with a drink and fries. Not very filling for this 6 ft 2, 270 pound man.

How the heck can you seriously mess up hot dogs? That's probably the easiest thing on the menu to prepare and cook. I've personally never had one, but I'd imagine it tastes alright. After all, every hot dog tastes the same to me...  ;D

BK is now bombarding us with TV ads promoting their July Special.
A grilled dog for 79 cents.

Should I really put some piece of meat in my mouth if it can be
sold for 79 cents and the vendor is not losing money?

Or have hot dogs at BK been a bomb, and is this the Great Summer Clearance Sale?

I havent had them yet. I love my grocery store doggs. Lol.......MEAT.....
