With Publix set to invade its home market, Harris Teeter has put itself on the block

Looks like Royal Ahold is interested; they didn't do so well last time with Bi-Lo...

If this happens, how it shakes out in Northern VA/DC/MD/DE will be interesting given how Harris Teeter is non-union while Giant-Landover is. Given Teeter's niche in those areas, does Ahold dare compete with themselves or does Teeter's Northern Division get split and sold to someone else? Neither would mean a lot of store closings because quite a few Teeters are near Giant locations.

Kroger buying Harris Teeter for 2.4 billion....

Probably the best possible outcome for H-T and its customers and associates. Kroger is much better at integrating acquisitions than Safeway and will view the chain as a long-term investment unlike private equity. Wouldn't surprise me if Kroger used the Harris Teeter banner in new markets on the East Coast. It'll be interesting to see how things shake out where both chains have locations. I suspect you'll see Harris Teeter taking over the overlapping stores with Kroger doing new Marketplace builds.
