I don't think there are any real differences except maybe some cosmetic ones. Chevy and GMC are the exact same thing with different labels slapped on (I'm surprised GMC wasn't killed off in the GM cutbacks).

In some cases it's also the options packages. My father used to own a 1978 GMC Sierra Half Ton at the time he bought it they basically had told him to get what he wanted in a Chevy he would have had to buy a Chevy Silverado which was more than he'd felt like spending so he went with the GMC instead.
