Filed for Chapter 11 a few days ago.  They are and have been contracted to be the sole cable provider in the Worcester, MA county area, so their rates there are astronomical.  They are also the fourth largest provider nationwide.

When I lived at home they were the worst cable service (internet & TV) that I've ever had.  Constantly down, bandwidth awful and their contractors have no idea what they're doing.  We had cable run thru our house since it was offered with digital cable installation, and every TV except the one connected to the outside line was blurry.  They said over the phone it was because the lines near us were too hot and it would just happen, and refused to take another trip out to check it out without charging.  A year later I bought some cable and re-did all the wiring, crystal clear picture.  Although I don't usually side with larger corporations, my experience with Comcast in RI and Western MA has been much better.

Wow, I know how you feel. We also had Charter for the longest time, and their service was as you said, crap. The internet was always down, and they were always here "fixing" the problem.

Thankfully in 06', their cable operations for this region were acquired by Suddenlink. Since the acquisition, we have had no problems what-so-ever, and the internet speed was even increased last year (although the upload speed is still nothing special).

Charter was a nightmare and I'm glad they're gone.
