I'm starting to find my job pretty boring again. While I like Kmart as a company, I really don't like my job as a floor associate. All you do is straighten and front crap and get yelled at by management for not having anything perfect. Kmart's new rule? We have to dust things.... the night manager even hands out and collects socks to make sure we're doing it....

Thats until I got to witness a 300 (Loss Prevention) stop and detain a family that was caught shoplifting. I got to play the witness during the detention and... well, I want the job.

After the stop, I saw the same 300 (who is the LP manager) and jokingly told him 'I want your job.'

So the next day, the LP saw me and asked if I wanted his job even though he had to file a bunch of paperwork and reports. I told him that I wouldn't mind and it would be better than straightening things for 8 hours. So he said that he would look into it and talk to the manager...

So my question is, what are the requirements of being a 300 with Kmart? Also, how do I formally request this kind of position change? What should I expect if I am interviewed for this position?

All answers are greatly welcomed, especially from any past or current Kmart 300's.

Well I haven't worked LP at Kmart, But I did it for 2 1/2 yrs with Kohls. When I started I didn't have any previous experience. They hired me and trained me (crappy training but thats kohls). Working in LP had its fun points..like when you stop shoplifters. Other times it can be very boring. But I'd much rather be in LP then a regular floor associate, I would say go for it.

I'd like to go for it, but I think my obasctle is my Store Coach, who doesn't like me very much... I can't really explain it, but I just get this feeling of dislike from her. I get along fairly decently with the other managers (The LP manager as well), and I KNOW they like me. So trying to convice the store manager... thats gonna be the hard part...

Anyways, I've been reading up on the finer details of Loss Prevention... The "Steps," What to look for, etc. Hopefully this come will in handy....

You will have to live by the five steps if you work in LP, very important.
