Von Mauer, a 150-year old Iowa based department store chain that currently has 36 locations, will be opening their newest one at South Hills Village south of Pittsburgh on November 9.

The store has been under construction for the better part of two years as they basically tore down the old Sears wing of SHV and built a new store in its place from the ground-up.

This chain is apparently known for entertaining customers with live music played on a grand piano on the sales floor.  I'm guessing I won't be getting the Marshalls price on anything here.

Von Mauer has opened an Employment Center inside the mall offering walk-in interviews.

I wonder how many piano players this place will need to hire?

The Von Maur store at South Hills Village has officially opened.

It occupies a new wing of the mall which replaces the demolished former Sears location. I need to get over there to check it out.

Scouting reports from friends and family who have visited the new Von Maur store at South Hills Village:

1) This is the most beautifully decorated store I've ever seen.  I have never seen any business with more elegant Christmas decor.

2) This store is so pricey I am unlikely to do much shopping here.

That makes the decision to open this store somewhat curious.  While the area surrounding South Hills Village has a one of the higher per-capita income levels in Pittsburgh it is not so high as to provide a lot of "I don't care what it costs" customers.  If people who come to shop over their first Christmas decide it's out of their price range they will likely not come back.

Maybe it will someday be a very classy Sprit Halloween Store.  We'll see.
