Both incarnations of the World Trade Center have featured shopping malls.

Opening dates:
1970 (The Mall at the World Trade Center)
2015 (Westfield World Trade Center)

Demolished:
September 11, 2001 (The Mall at the World Trade Center)

Current Status:
Destroyed (The Mall at the World Trade Center)
Under Construction (Westfield World Trade Center)

The most well-known one was the original mall, The Mall at the World Trade Center. It opened in 1970 and was, of course, destroyed on September 11, 2001. Here's a map of what the mall looked like then:

At the time of the attacks, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had leased it to the Westfield Group. Westfield, in fact, was even going to rename it Westfield Shoppingtown World Trade Center. Several new restaurants were planning on opening in the mall when it was destroyed.

In addition to being a shopping mall, it also functioned as a transportation hub, providing connections to stations on the New York City Subway (1, 9, A, C, E, N and R trains), as well as the PATH subway to New Jersey.

Here is a picture of the mall after it's destruction:

It's successor, Westfield World Trade Center, is currently under construction. However, it will only be half the size of the original mall, due to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, where the museum portion will be located underground as well. However, it will also feature three above-ground levels as well, while the original mall was confined underground. The new mall will open in 2015.

I never made it to the World Trade Center before it was destroyed. It was on my list of places I wanted to see. I think it was November 1999 the first time I ever was in NYC. For high school I attended EC Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain, CT and took up Culinary Arts. In November 1999 The Culinary Arts Senior Class at EC Goodwin Tech and The Culinary Arts Senior Class from Prince Technical High School in Hartford took a trip to NYC for a Culinary Arts Trade Show at the Jacob Javits Center. We were under strict orders to stay at the Convention Center - threatened with suspension or expulsion if we left the Convention Center and wandered around NYC. I wish I had risked suspension and went to the World Trade Center. After the World Trade Center was destroyed in 2001, I made it a point when I visited NYC in November 2002 that I saw The Empire State Building. Even though the day was damp and cloudy the view from the Observation Deck at The Empire State Building was amazing.

The Duane Reade in the mall was actually the busiest store in their entire chain at the time.

The mall itself was not  destroyed in the blast  Somehow people got down there and retrieved photos and film from the camera store that was located there
I have seen other photos in the past from the mall nut have not been able to find them recently  the old subway station  was reopened shortly after  with drywall covering the mall entrance
why the photos are gone  is strange
