I just thought I would post this so everyone can post their thoughts and prayers regarding this awful tragedy.  I also heard about our first conspiracy theory coming out of the woodwork, http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1026.htm, ridiculous.

Boy, there is one in every bunch!  When no reasonable cause can be determined, let's blame it on the government (any government).  Unfortunately, it just comes down to something that the federal and state governments should have been checking all along as our road and bridge systems begin aging and need to either be replaced or repaired more often than every 50 years.

How tragic for anyone who is not found and those who may have survived the crash, but perished by drowning.

if u think about it not enoght money is going in to fixing ageing structures i mean this brige is an example of that just like when the steam pipe blew up in new york city and there was also the old ageing wall that fell on the highway just to name a few recent evenats that have happend but they all connocted in a way

It looks like another wakeup call on the Nation's Infrastructures. I read a lot into the Bridge collapse over Schoharie Creek in 1987, and learned that that could have been prevented due to better material being placed around the pier as well as more frequent Inspections.

I was watching the News last night and they stated a ridiculous amount of bridges in New York State that are in a nice sense "junk". Many others needed some attention to get them back up to satisfactory condition.

Although they are saying that the reports won't come back for a year or so, I am curious to see what the cause of the collapse was.

i really think they need to replace the tappen zee bridge whitch is located near me in new york state that brige is falling apart and is contlay being repaired and i fear someday it might comedown, it gos across the hudson river and if that thing falls into there theres no way anyone would get out alive

In a chatroom last night a group of us were talking. George was in a silly mood and said he and Paul went to Friendly's. He said he had a Reeces Sundae and Paul had a Fribble. Mike F asked "Did George really meet Paul?" I replied "Mikey if you believe that I got a bridge in Minneapolis to sell you. Oh crud! It fell down! DANG!"

I saw on Fox News the other day, one of the factors they are considering in the collapse is bird dung.  More specifically, the build up of pigeon poop!

is that even possible? i mean are they seriously thinking that the tiny weight thats on every bridge caused by bird crap would cause that one bridge to fall?

I questioned that too when I first read his posting, but I looked into the article, and they mentioned about how the Bird Crap could have helped to deteriorate the bridge by causing it to rust at a faster rate than it normally would. Pretty messed up if that is one of the root causes.
