Smaha's was supplied by Hannaford, and one of the grocery behemoth's former executives (an HR guy) will end up buying the store. Founder Herbert Smaha started in the grocery business in 1914(!) and opened the first Columbia Market in 1932; the remaining store opened in 1939 and the Columbia Market chain had five locations at the time of Herb's death in 1964. The elder Smaha was also one of the founders of the Pine Tree Shopping Center.
