Title: Detroit Red Wings announce plans for final Joe Louis Arena season

The 2016-17 season will be the last NHL season at Joe Louis Arena. After that, the Detroit Red Wings will move into a new facility in midtown Detroit.

In some ways an ideal hockey venue, as you can literally throw a rock into Canada from there.

I will always remember it as the place where the Pittsburgh Penguins won their third
Stanley Cup.  On the night analog TV shut-down for good.

I am old enough to remember watching games televised from The Olympia.
