Tweeter has been around since the late 70's at least. I have some recordings from a radio station in Providence (WERI-FM, then known as "RI-104") from 1986 that has ads for Tweeter in them. Their slogan at the time was "Tweeter - For Times Like These"
Tweeter just got done closing a bunch of stores...I hope they stick around. They seem to have high-quality products compared to the Chinese crap you get at Best Buy. Tweeter goes by other names in other States.
Before the "Tweeter" moniker, the stores in the Philly area were known as "Bryn Mawr Stereo and Video up until a few years ago.
