They are both part of the same company (along with Country Buffet [that's without the Old in front]) - if you go to http://www.oldcountrybuffet.com it shows all 3 logos and the parent company name, Buffets, Inc.

Are you refering to that chinese buffet that is on the side of the Target? That is just an independent thing not related to "Buffet's Inc."

The first location is in the Crosstown Plaza in Schenectady on Route 7.  It is a freestanding building built as an OCB at the front end of the plaza (near Watt St and the former Price Chopper).

The 2nd is the Latham Circle Mall location - built into the mall and was another restaurant prior to this.

Hometown Buffet is the best. I love the food and you can get as much as you want. I've had dinner and breakfast there.

This is the Pittsfield (MA) location in the plaza with Price Chopper & WalMart off Route 8.

Nothing special about it - was build new for them and looks like other freestanding ones.

I like them. Haven't been there in years  though. I only been to the one in West Hartford. I was supposed to go to the one in Waterbury about a month ago with a friend, but you know crap happens and things change. Stupid karma.

If this place goes out i won't miss it. I haven't eaten there in years, their food always tasted cheap and like it had been left out for hours. Plus all you can eat buffets are a bad bad idea in a country that has a massive weight problem as it is.

I was at Old Country Buffet a week ago, the food was put out fresh every hour or so, or when it got low, someone was monitoring all the tables and would say what they need more of and shout to the kitchen. The bus people were incredibly nice, considering they were running around like mad clearing dishes and bringing out new glasses for the soda machine. The price was fair enough, and there's always coupons in the paper for that place, buy adult dinner get 2 kids free, things like that. And I have 2 kids...lol Nutshell, I enjoyed it and plan on going again really soon.

There is still one on Bay Avenue in Toms River, NJ you can take your friends too this summer.  Only 15 miles from the old one in Freehold.  It is in the Seacourt Pavilion acroos from the Ocean County Mall.

It was bad enough when they closed the OCBs closest to me in Freehold and Old Bridge - we were forced to waste gas and drive to either Toms River or Edison. Looks like Toms River is now gone - it was on their web site under NJ locations yesterday, and it's gone today. Damn!! I loved those buffet meals - not exactly gourmet fare, but it was comfort food and I liked the atmosphere.

I think the big problem with Old Country Buffet is it has an image of being a place for old people. I really think they seriously need to do some marketing and give their image an overhaul.

My family and I ate lunch at The Hometown Buffet at The Brass Mill Commons in Waterbury, CT yesterday. The food was very good. It was about $25 for 3 people - me, my mom, and my dad. Service was a little slow though. We probably had six plates stacked up before they took them away. We hadn't eaten at Hometown Buffet in several years. The last time we ate there we ate at the one in West Hartford.

Multiple Old Country and Hometown Buffets closed a few years back, leaving only 5 in NJ. We joined the eClub but failed to receive the usual October coupon for my husband's birthday. I emailed them several times and tried to call the 800 number, but kept getting a recording. After complaining directly on their web site, I received an email apologizing and saying they were "in transition". They said a coupon was attached, but it wasn't.

Anyway, this makes me wonder if the chain(s) are closing soon. Anybody hear any news?

In January 2008 Buffet Inc. Filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection. As part of a restructuring plan they closed several locations. I'm not sure how many. I believe they are out of Chapter 11 now.

Haven't gone in a while since they've closed most of their locations in NJ. It goes down a notch each time we go since the bankruptcy, so on the way up the Parkway my hubby predicted that the next change they'd make would be to charge for drinks, like Golden Corral. We got there and, sure enough! They lowered the price for breakfast a buck but added a buck fifty for coffee. I just shook my head and mourned the loss of the old, great Old Country Buffet. I miss them! I think we won't be going back, as it's a bit of a trek to drive up there in the AM, for such little reward.

I guess I'm lucky, only a 45 minute drive to a pretty decent ocb in Medford, MA. Usually go twice a month with friends. Interestingly they are charging for drinks... I'm still okay with that because the drinks are straight up self serve. When my friends and I hit the Golden coral in Springfeild, MA... The food is much better, however the drink station is held hostage by the waitstaff that MIGHT stop back by to see if you need a refill before you leave.....

My friend Jeff and I went to the one in Waterbury, Connecticut on Friday. It was good. They now charge $1.39 for unlimited beverages - (soda, coffee, cappichino, milk, icees) at Lunch and $1.99 at Dinner. Going for lunch it now comes to $8.88 for one person. It's not bad. I've paid more than that at the Chinese-American Royal Buffet in The Shoprite Plaza in Waterbury.

Sorry Chuck, I'm not going to cross state lines just for lunch (or dinner).   ;)

Hometown in Waterbury was just 25 mins from me. I live right off Route 69 in Bristol so at The end of my street I would just turn left onto Route 69 follow it through the rest of Bristol, Wolcott, and Waterbury and then make a left onto Brass Mill Drive and a Right into the parking lot of The Brass Mill Commons.

The Old Country Buffet in Bensalem on street road closed
That sucks, as it was the only ocb I would go to. Hell I was JUST there 2 weekends ago, crazy it closed, it surely got business.
The one near adams ave is too close to olney (ghetto) of philly, so I never want to go there.

I even took a quick crappy pic with my cell phone 2 weekends ago!

Looks like there are 3 left in CT, from the website (all under the HomeTown Name):
http://www.oldcountrybuffet.com/locations?state=CT

Manchester, Milford and Wethersfield (which appears to be between Waterbury and Hartford, no?).

Now, how they wound up leaving the one in Pittsfield, MA I don't know.
They had closed the couple in the Albany (NY) area in the past few years and now with closing the West Springfield one as well it leaves that one kind of by itself (all the rest remaining in MA appear to be east of Worcester).  http://www.oldcountrybuffet.com/locations?state=MA

Ok, you all know I went to OCB quite a few times, but since the last time I posted in this thread, in 2008...those sons of biscuits CLOSED my OCB!!!!! Dam crackheads don't know what they are doing. Our place was clean, service was incredible, people were awesome, and it was always pretty busy. And they closed. I found out the day AFTER they closed, when I was planning on going there to eat. Jack holes. I have now moved across the highway to the NEW IHOP, next to Barnes & Noble. I'm still pissed though...

This is sort of sad for me. This is where my family used to go since it opened as "Old Country Buffet". We haven't been there in a long while (I'd say since late 2008). So maybe it had went downhill. But, I remember the Wethersfield one being pretty popular (almost an institution) and ALWAYS busy. Tons of memories here. It's hard to believe they actually closed. Nothing from my childhood is left anymore, and that was just the 90s.   :-[

I also am not sure what's going on at the former West Hartford location. I did find the site plan saying that Hibachi Grill is going in that spot, but I don't see anything going on there. I did notice they covered up the doors in some sort of wrap and through the plastic and the blinds in the windows I saw the lights were still on inside. Maybe they are working inside.

The Old Country Buffet in Seekonk closed up at some point last week. I'll miss this place, when I was a member of the Assemblies of God my youth group would go here twice a month. Several local restaurants have already put up fliers on the building directing traffic to their establishments. No idea what is anything is going here, the Tweeter next door is still vacant after the chain's bankruptcy.

They were almost all originally Old Country Buffet when they opened in the mid-90s, at least in CT. Wethersfield was at least. I never understood why they switched names. To this day, I thought of them still as the "Country Buffet".

There was an Old Country Buffet very briefly in New Britain some time in the 90s. It didn't last very long. I think before that it was Abdow's Big Boy's. Then after OCB it became a Hollywood Video. Somewhere in the same area today is a very disgusting (at least according to my parents) Chinese Buffet.

I heard the main reason they shut down West Hartford and Wethersfield was because of patrons letting in family members through the Exit doors, therefore having them eat for free. I don't know how the cashiers or other employees never saw this. One of my dad's co-workers saw something like this happen in Wethersfield. No doubt it happened in West Hartford. I wonder how the new Hibachi Buffet will do in that spot when it opens.

That sounds almost like an urban legend; I find it hard to believe that Buffets wouldn't clean house and hire new management if this was going on. Buffets is still looking to emerge from its latest Chapter 11, and there are some eye-opening disclosures in their latest filing that make it plain that the buffet concept has lots of inherent pitfalls.

I watched Undercover Boss BUFFET Inc. This is a new CEO that took over at then end of 2012. They are currently working on upgrading the restaurants - food, decor, people, etc. Something is seriously wrong with the company. They went from several billion dollars in sales in 2006 to filing for bankruptcy less than 3 years later! And of course they filed again and now they are out. They did not say whether or not they are opening new locations or not.

The 2 locations in left in Connecticut remain open in Manchester and Milford.

Former CT Locations:

Waterbury: Buffalo Wild Wings

West Hartford: Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet (Chinese Buffet)

Wethersfield: World Buffet (Chinese Buffet)

New Britain: (Closed Years ago) Kool Smiles Kid's Dentist

The Old Country Buffet at the Southgate Shopping Center in Southgate, Michigan opened in probably the early 1990's in what was originally Kresge. It briefly became Hometown Buffet in the mid-2000's before reverting back to Old Country Buffet only to close in early 2012. It is now All American Buffet.

The Old Country Buffet in the Southland Shopping Center near Century III Mall became
the Old Towne Buffet.  Locally owned by a Chinese family, it was an eclectic mix of
Chinese food plus all of the standard fare that you used to find at Old Country.

Recently they moved up the road to the former Tambellini's (a VERY elegant and famous
local restaurant in its day), so the original Old Country space is now vacant.

I used to go to the one in Waterbury a few times a year. The last time I went was on May 24th, 2011 seven months before they closed. (I went by myself for my 29th birthday, which was May 23rd). I used to live in the West End of Bristol and it was about a 15 or 20 minute drive up Route 69 for me.

Industry analysts claim that these chains "cater too much to an older clientele" and "are ill-suited to provide younger customers with the fresh, organic, healthy, upscale cuisine they are seeking".

Once you turn 50 in this society nobody wants your money I guess.

And the only one in NY even close appears to be on Long Island (the other two are Buffalo and Elmira, both farther west).
