Is the book from Australia by chance? Coles is one of the top retailers...they own everything from discount stores to supermarkets and office chains (Kmart and Target Australia). They also have stores under the Coles name. Does their logo look like this? (http://www.colesgroup.com.au/images/logos/coleslogo.gif)

Since I'm from Australia, I'm fairly sure it's something from the Australian Coles supermarket chain which has wound up in the USA.
Can't tell for sure since I'm replying to an almost 14 year old thread that doesn't have any photos of the item.
