Title: Connecticut / Remaining Store Status

Here's a quick list of the status of Ames store locations in the state. These are confirmed by Ames Fan Club members, vacancies are also up-to-date. (February 14, 2007).

Stores of CONNECTICUT

BLOOMFIELD -- demolished; became Lowe's Home Improvement Store
DAYVILLE -- still vacant
EAST HARTFORD -- still vacant
EAST HAVEN -- became Ocean State Job Lot
ENFIELD -- subdivided into Dick's Sporting Goods, Dollar Tree
JEWETT CITY -- became Ocean State Job Lot
MANCHESTER -- became Outlet Marketplace, currently VF Outlet (former Caldor)
MERIDEN -- still vacant, slated to become Lowe's Home Improvement Store
MIDDLETOWN -- demolished; became Home Depot (former Caldor)
NAUGATUCK -- still vacant
NEWINGTON -- demolished; became Price Chopper
NORWICH -- became Backus Outpatient Care Center
OLD SAYBROOK -- became Ocean State Job Lot
ROCKY HILL -- still vacant
ROCKY HILL / Planogram -- still vacant
ROCKY HILL / Corporate Offices -- still vacant
SEYMOUR -- still vacant
SOUTHINGTON -- subdivided into Bed, Bath & Beyond, Bob's Discount Furniture
TORRINGTON -- still vacant, slated to become Lowe's Home Improvement Store (former Caldor)
VERNON -- became Price Chopper
WATERFORD -- became Lowe's Home Improvement Store
WEST HARTFORD -- still vacant (still standing, not used for retail), but used as a climate-controlled storage facility (former Caldor)
WILLIMANTIC / EASTBROOK MALL -- became Kohl's (former Caldor)
WINSTED -- subdivided into Peeble's, Tractor Supply Co.

Vacant stores remaining: 8

the one in meriden is slated to become a Lowe's. the one in vernon is a price chopper.

When was Meriden announced? I'll have to go up there soon for a final photo shoot. Anyway, those were added, thanks!

Yeah I'd like to know when they announced this for Meriden too especaially since there's a Lowe's on Route 5 in Wallingford.

Yeah, here are some pictures I took a while ago of the former Ames in Vernon.  It did become a Price Chopper, TJ Maxx was already there.

Meriden has been confirmed; it will become Lowe's. Vernon has also been corrected. I'll be making further edits to the original post from now on. Thanks, guys!
