I did some Google searching and discovered this former Caldor was located on 881 Washington St. in Middletown on Rt. 66.

It would seem that an A&P/Waldbaums and Staples are the new plaza anchors.

Since it's been brought to my attention, I'd like to know what this looked like when it was an Ames (and I can't access the store locator at this time).

There was an article in the paper a few years ago that Shaw's was buying  the Middletown AMES, so how come Shaw's doesn't have a store in Middletown now?

I took a ride by the Washington Plaza (the plaza opposite Middletown Plaza) yesterday on Route 66. The plaza is a strange one with the entire right half clean and proper from Home Depot (the former Caldor/Ames space) and the otherside a completely old looking, falling apart mess. There's some vacant building down on that left end which has an orange interior. The entire backside to the lot was also trashed and dumped.
