I worked at Ames during the transition from the old mechanical registers to the IBM 3683s. I can still recite the SKUs for various items... these were the ones that you just had to know because they weren't on price tickets.

Candy bars - 67235515
Cards - 81230012
Books - 02730021

Now that's pretty scary considering it been about 20 years! :)

700 30010 .... washer fluid.... arrrrhhhh! How many thousands of those did I tag, unload, move to the top shelf, move down to the regular shelves, move back up to the top shelf, and ring through the sales line?

Just the number brings it all back....
