One that has always been a big part of my life as my background
is (mostly) Irish.
They have a HUGE St. Patrick's Day Parade here in Pittsburgh. I believe it is
the second largest behind New York City. It is the one day a year where they
look the other way at open container laws for a few hours.
I used to go because my brother runs an Irish fraternal organization that marches
in the parade. But anymore it is not a pleasant experience as for too many people
it is all about getting drunk at eight o'clock in the morning, and little else.
Everyone still remembers the 1993 parade, as it went on, uninterrupted, despite
a blizzard and 2 1/2 feet of snow.
What a difference two years makes. 2 years ago here in Connecticut it was around 70 for St. Patrick's Day. Tomorrow it's barely gonna be 40. Last year there was a lot of snow on the ground as we had a blizzard 2-3 days earlier.
