i never been to one of there store but they sure took up some space when Ames and Caldor went out of bizz:mad:
and ther etv adds are so funny:insane:
Never went into one of their stores. They opened a big store in a former HQ warehouse in Bangor. They also opened in the former Ames in Concord NH
This was our local Burlington, At Eastern Hills. This store was orginally Jenn's Dept. Store until they partially went out of business in 2001. What I mean by "partially", is they shut down all their dept. stores in 2001, but they still operate a few small clothes stores still under the Jenns name.
Burlington closed this location in 2003. Makes sense. Look at the datedness of this place. looks like it came right out of the 70's.
I've been to the one closest to me which was a Caldor/Ames store before. (There was also a Silo electronics store in the same center). I wasn't real impressed. The prices were not that great, and the quality of some of the home stuff looked very poor. They also have a very poor return policy.
I did end up buying a $30 jacket a year or two back, and the zipper completely fell off. I have had Kmart jackets last longer than this.

yeah when I first went into a Burlington Coat Factory I WAS EXPECTING something local type retail coat chain like a design of Bradlees with red and white.
I WAS ALSO EXPECTING A FACTORY! lol:insane:
But when I got in the store i got excited with the new fancy floor and colors
but that excitment didn't last for long the whole store was colored in different shades of tan or something like that and it had a warehouse ceiling which I DON'T LIKE
and pretty soon I got bored

This store is now closing. That will mean in a period of 6 years, this store went from Caldor to Ames to BCF to????. What could be next? We have everything in the general area except a Big Lots. I think this shopping center is cursed...as soon as one store opens, another closes:no:
hears a pic from there add i dont like them there adds are weird and i dont like that fact that they make fun of DEPT stores:mad:

It has the same storefront.
Yes! They completely removed the Kmart storefront and replaced it with their own "probably common" style.
Burlington Coat Factory at Nashua Mall in Nashua NH.
This isn't the best of stores but neither is it the worst. You can get some good deals, just buyer beware. They sell a lot of urban clothes and do have some discounted name brands but I have found cheaper elsewhere. People do flock to these stores and they are always busy, however their return policy is horrible--no cash refunds, just merchandise credit and the help lousy if one can even find a salesclerk
Burlington Coat Factory locations I know of
East Providence RI--opened in 1984, replaced Kings which had replaced a Mammoth Mart, this store used to have the blue lettering font then a few years ago it updated to the red one commonly seen. The letters are constantly blowing out
South Attleboro Mass--opened a couple years ago, replaced an Ames which had been a Zayre. Pretty much remodeled the entire facade of the building
Johnston RI--moved into a vacant K-mart, not sure when this opened as I don't travel to that area very often.
Triva fact-- the BCF in New London, CT is in the very first Bradlees ever (Store #880). I ran the downstairs basement level (the Toy, Seasonal, Sporting Goods depts) the last year it was opened in the 1981 before Bradlees moved across the highway in1982 to the old Two Guys building that I worked in prior to going to Bradlees.
The one here in Kingston moved into the old Caldor. Other locations I know of are:
Albany(Latham) - Latham Cirlcle Mall - Former Boston Store location
Poughkeepsie - South Hills Mall - Former Hess's location
Syracuse(Cicero) - Penn Can Mall(Drivers Village) - sealed up half of the old Sears location.

Kinda disagree with you there Caldor, the first Burlington opened in a former Kings near me in 1984 and has been there ever since. Another one opened in the former Ames in South Attleboro and another in a former Kmart in Johnston RI and all seem to be doing quite well.

my dad does not like the chain as much and I too compare them to tj maxx or marshalls so TJX companies must as well buy them even though a company got burlington coat recently and I agree of the overlap. Burlington coat replaced old Ames', bradlees and caldors and some closed kmarts. they have none in VT. They have burlington coat in pawtucket and south attleboro when the towns neighbor.

Burlington Coat Factory is coming to Lakeland Florida. According to the Lakeland Ledger the Ne Jersey based company is moving into a former Belk location and is set to open this Fall.
EAST HARTFORD, CT at the former Charter Oak Mall.
It was a Bradlees which closed in the mid 1990s, before the chain's closure.
Theres a bunch in NJ that just moved around......................
Man I had to dig deep to see if there was a thread for this store (over 6 years ago was the last post!)
Anyways one is coming near me, its going into a building that last was a Lit Brothers then Clover then JCPenney and has been closed since 2003.
It is becoming a Burlington Coat Factory along with Bobs Furniture and 1 other store supposidly.
Here is a picture of it I snapped from my car. I like how that mansard roof/siding was clover's design and it was green, then became tan/beige for jcpenney and now is going to be maroon for burlington coat factory.

I also found a sketch of how it will look

It looks like part of the Clover siding was removed to expose the look that Lit Brothers used from 1955 to 1977.
A Burlington Coat Factory openened inside a former Cub Foods store along with a relocated Michaels store in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The stores are located next to Toys "R" Us, and a Goodwill store (a former Best Buy location).
did Cub foods completly close? They were in Indianapolis for years before closing
After the Burlington at Latham Circle Mall in Latham, NY closed back in 2012, BCF finally announced that they are going to re-open at a new store at the Shoppes at Latham Circle, currently under development at the old mall site.
There are several Burlington Coat Factory stores in Philadelphia, including:
- Cottman and Castor Avenue (in portion of former Lit Brothers/Clover/JCPenney)
- Philadelphia Mills Mall (in former 49th Street Galleria)
- SW Corner 11th and Market Street, in The Gallery (former JCPenney)
- Rosevelt Boulevard and Welsh Road (in portion of former E. J. Korvette)
Although I have never bought anything there I like them. It seems like they sell some decent stuff. I've been to their stores twice. Once in Waterbury, CT and once in Meriden, CT at Townline Square. (I think the store in Meriden may have been Bradlees).
The only problem is apparently they don't respond to emails. Last year I sent their corporate office an email to suggest a location for them to open and I got no response. Not even an acknowledgement that they had received the email.

No, the just downsized by closing a few underperforming stores. I have a feeling that Meijer will compensate for the loss of Kmart and Cub in the Green Bay area.
The New London Store (Former Bradlees) no longer uses their downstairs section (Exception of Bathrooms and Employee/Stock)
Burlington Coat in East Hartford, CT was located in J.M. Fields before they moved to the Bradlee's store. Here, at the University Mall (not dead, but in a coma) the Burlington Coat is in the old Montgomery wards store.
A Burlington store will open in the Hamden Mart, Hamden, CT, replacing the recently closed Bon-Ton.
The website for Kimco Realty shows Burlington is coming to the West Farms Shopping Center in Farmington, CT It will be in the old Sports Authority. I don't know when they are opening.

Just in that plaza, it will join TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack and Saks off 5th Ave opening in the former Sears site.

Two are opening next year in New Jersey. One in Burlington Township and one in Mount Laurel.

When did the Kmart close?
three of these in my area.
1) In the former Village Square Mall, next to South Hills Village in suburban Pittsburgh.
A former indoor mall that was "de-malled" about 20 yrs. ago. The interior space that was
the mall was gutted and the full floor space was opened up for tenants. Burlington fills the
top floor. Kohl's is downstairs, and Home Depot fills a former Hills location in the back.
2) In the former Hechingers location in West Mifflin, PA, across the parking lot from
the Service Merchandise where I worked.
3) In the first floor of the former Gimbels Department Store on Smithfield Street in
Downtown Pittsburgh. This is a remnant of the dwindling retail scene downtown.
The store has had a lot of crime problems. It is located next-door to a McDonalds that
had basically become an open air drug market.

Burlington is very concentrated in some areas in the Philly market, but I feel it has light coverage particularly in the western suburbs. For example, it lacks a store serving from Plymouth Meeting, King of Prussia, Malvern, Exton/Downingtown corridor if you go east to west on the PA Turnpike. It's store locator lists locations in Wilmington, or Springfield, Upper Darby, but none in those specified markets. These are all markets where Target operates at least one store.
I thought the JCPenney closure at King of Prussia and macy's closure at Plymouth Meeting could spur some redevelopment and include Burlington, but the mall owners aren't redeveloping with Burlington in mind. Perhaps Burlington will look at offsite Toys R Us/Babies R Us former locations in King of Prussia and where suitable. It snatched up the Sports Authority site in the Centerton Square in Mt. Laurel, NJ and some it's new stores are about 50,000 sq. ft over 80,000 sq. ft stores.

On the subject of the vacant JCP at the KOP Mall, I just hope Simon (the owners of the mall) does not do what GGP did to the old JCP at the Providence Place Mall in Providence, Rhode Island. It is my understanding that GGP bulldozed the old JCP and replaced it with another parking structure.

Laurel, NJ and some it's new stores are about 50,000 sq. ft over 80,000 sq. ft stores.

I would think something like a Whole Foods on one level, Burlington or Best Buy on another level would be a suitable replacement for the JCPenney, but I believe the plan is go hybrid mixed-use at the JCPenney site at King of Prussia. There is no Whole Foods currently in the immediate King of Prussia area, and even though Best Buy has an offsite, maybe at the mall will draw bigger crowds and higher sales, even though rent will be higher. I like that the Walden Galleria in Buffalo has a Best Buy as part of the mall, and something similar could have been done at King of Prussia.
Instead the King of Prussia JCPenney redevelopment plans is luxury apartments and class A office space, and likely more parking structures. Personally, I think there is not enough space in that side of the mall for hyper redevelopment like that, and parking will become unmanageable. Apartments and offices will block entrances to/from the mall as well, and not accommodate through access like an anchor or junior anchor.
But the ToysRUs/Babies location in King of Prussia is an ideal place for Burlington, and it doesn't need to be part of the mall. It shouldn't be hard for Burlington to snatch this site up and it wouldn't have to deal with a mall owner.
At King of Prussia, there is a plan to upgrade the flooring/aesthetics of the entire mall to match the newer connector. That is needed.
Burlington had downsized some stores recently.
The South Portland Maine location has been sub-divided inside with a wall made of racking and the back of the store is now storage. I have noticed the same setup at the Peabody MA location.
Bangor ME is possibly getting the same treatment with the back of the store nearly empty currently.
Burlington has closed the Northeast Shopping Center store in Philadelphia PA. This store was a 2-level store (1st Floor and Basement)
Burlington is slated to take up a portion of the former Kmart at Cromwell Square in Cromwell, CT:

Several Burlington stores have drastically downsized their floor selling space lately. They've done this by adding racking walls at the back of the store. This makes the selling area much smaller, often comparable to a typical Marshalls or Tjmaxx.
I guess the reasons behind that may be the lack of merchandise to fill larger stores. It also makes less floor space to cover and maintain by staff.
I wonder what are the net savings because they still have to rent/pay for unused floor space (which is lighted and air conditioned too).

I wonder if the cost is not the reason for keeping the unused floor space, but rather keeping other businesses from filling the space, especially given the space is not walled off.
I drove by the relatively new Burlington store in Bridgeville, PA the other day and noticed that they were in the process of knocking some new doors into the building down at the far and where the old Kmart Auto Center used to be. So obviously they are not taking up the entire footprint of the building and that area is being leased to another retailer tbd (I don't see any Coming Soon signs up yet).

They may also not want to do anything immediately, as there is a possibility that the amount of available inventory and staffing could go back up in the future.
Other places they took over existing space and may not have used all of it, but the remainder has no easy way of being accessed (there is one store locally in a mall that might apply to, as the blocked off sections are not near any doorways from either outside or the mall itself).
I was in the Burlington store in West Mifflin, PA yesterday and noticed the same thing. The building there is a former Hechingers home center and is quite large. Burlington is currently using only the front half. They have the back half walled off with a cheesy pegboard wall that you can see right through or around. That does make it seem that this is temporary and they could expand the footprint later on (though I doubt it will ever go back to the entire former Hechingers floor plan).
The Burlington location in the de-malled Village Square Mall near Pittsburgh has closed.
It was in an odd upstairs location of the former mall that could only be reached via an escalator from the lower parking lot. It shared space on that floor with Kohl's. Strangely that Kohl's has a front entrance that can be accessed from the front parking lot (this is Pittsburgh with very hilly terrain after all) but there was no corresponding second entrance for Burlington.
With Burlington gone the mall's owner has just closed that lower entrance and shut down the escalator. The rear doors at Kohl's have been blocked with a note saying the mall's owners will no longer let you exit to that lower parking lot.
The Burlington store in the vicinity of the former Century III Mall has moved.
It was for many years located in a former Hechinger's store off of Lebanon Church Road, across the parking lot from a Service Merchandise location where I once worked.
It has since moved down the hill adjacent to PA Route 51 and the Southland Shopping Center, into a location that was recently vacated by DSW. Prior to being a DSW this was for many years an Ames location (and a G.C. Murphy Mart before that).
It should get a lot more customer traffic being down by 51 as where it was it had just lost it's lone neighbor, Big Lots (in a former Hills/Ames location). With all other retailers gone from that vicinity there was little reason for shoppers to bother driving back there.
