Title: Ayr-Way Department Stores
Post by: HoJofan206 on March 24, 2005, 01:53:51 AM
I live in Evansville Indiana and when I was younger we had two department stores here in town called Aye-Way.  They closed in the early 1980's (right around the time that our Woolco stores also went out of business).  The Aire-Way stores were replaced with Target stores.  Does anyone else remember these stores and if so, what happened to them.  Where they owned by the same parent company as Target since Target replaced them in the same stores immediately.
Thanks for any info provided.

What year was it that Ayr-Way went out of business.  Did Target buy them out or just take over their empty stores?

Zayre88, when I went to the website you gave a link to, it took me to a domain name site. Can you find out if it still exists? Anyway, the Target in the picture looks like an old one, so how long ago did Ayr-Way go out of business?

As I best remember/recall, Target took over the Ary-Way locations in the early 1980's.  Around the same time that Woolco went under.

The Ayr-Way name appears to be a mix of Zayre and Jamesway...

Er... Actually it comes from LS Ayres, the department store that owned Ayr-Way.
