This building was most recently a Venture location at one time. Originally, it was a Woolco, then HIlls Department store, followed by VENTURE, and lastly was a ShopKo Department store. After Shopko it breifly lived as a computer/stereo liquidation center. IN 2006 this entire shopping center sits empty. :no:
The vacant grocery store (BUY LOW) that sits in the same shopping center as the above vacant department store.

Former Venture/Kmart
I remember our Ventures here around Indianapolis. There was one on U.S. 40 next to the K-Mart that is now a parking garage for the Indianapolis International Airport. I don't remember this store as well...
The Venture in Greenwood, IN, off Shelby Street and U.S. 31 closed, reopened, and then closed again to become a K-Mart. I remember frequently going to that store when K-Mart was there, but it closed in summer 2002. It was a good thing it WAS closed because it was hit by an F4 tornado on September 19, 2002, and everyone in the store would've been killed had it been in business. (The roof collapsed, which caused most of the building to collapse, as a result. The Pier-1, Burger King, Shoe Carnival, and Stuart Anderson's Cattle Company in front of the shopping center were completely leveled. The Galyan's next door was also leveled in the process.)
The shopping center that the Venture was in has since been repaired/rebuilt and the outlet that Venture occupied is now a flower place (Flower Factory, I believe).
Although I was rarely inside a Venture store, I miss them.
Check out this YouTube video showing the interior of the former Venture in Fairmont City, IL, now a classic car showroom with some nice cars!

Actually Kmart bought the Venture in 1996. In 1996 Kmart bought all the Ventures in Texas and their Texas distribution center. The chain closed in 1997-1998. I can vaguely remember going to one in Houston soon after the conversion, when I was 3. I got a Hot Wheels
1997 Ford F-150 at that store. :yup::bouncing:
Kmart closed many of these stores during their early 2002 bankruptcy.
Joplin High School in Joplin, Missouri, is currently operating some of their classrooms out of a temporary home in the former Venture (which later became a ShopKo) store at Northpark Mall. The original Joplin High School was damaged by a tornado just this last summer.

Around when were those pics taken? 80's? Was the store in the process of opening?
The Meijer store in Orland Park, IL used to be a Venture
https://retail247.blogspot.com/2022/11/quick-look-former-venture-store-orland.html
They didn't remodel much on the outside, and you can still see the Venture labelscar
In Australia, there used to be a department store called Venture. The Australian and American chains were not related in any way and the Australian stores slogan was "Venture - Where Quality Costs Less"
The Australian chain used a Black, White and Blue colour scheme with Blue being the main colour.
These are the only images I could find that show what the front of an Australian Venture Department Store might have looked like. I say might because the images are screenshots taken from an old 90's TV commercial and I think the storefront may be a computer generated image and not an actual storefront. It's still the closest I could get to what it would have been.
