Makes you wonder if the Grand Union Family Markets are up for grabs, too...

Update: The GU Family Markets are indeed on the block as C&S looks to exit retail altogether. Apparently this has been the case for several years.

They pretty much have been ever since GU went bankrupt (at least it seems).

After C&S bought them, they sold off quite a few and over the years since have sold or closed other stores whenever competition pops up in the area (some have just closed and turned into other things, some have been sold/leased directly to other supermarket chains).

This past year they outright closed 2 locations that were flood damaged (with no plans to re-open them that has been seen).

There aren't that many left (24 per their site) and half of those (12) are in the Adirondacks - since both Price Chopper and Hannaford now have stores in Lake Placid (and other areas surrounding like Plattsburgh, Watertown, etc.), I'm surprised that one (or both) haven't made offers for the other stores up there - you'd think they would be good locations, given the distances to any major shopping area and lack of competition (even if some of them are quite small).
