The Rite Aid at 52 East Street in Plainville,  CT closed. They are no longer on the store locator. There is a sign on the pylon sign at ShopRite Plaza on Route 10 in nearby Southington that says "CVS welcomes Rite Aid Customers."

I think that sign is just with the conversions in general - I've seen them around here at several CVS locations with a Rite Aid nearby that Walgreens is taking over.

Just to let those who may not like Walgreens (or perhaps their insurance doesn't) know that CVS is there for them.

I went to the liquidation sale in Berlin, CT yesterday. They obviously shipped most of their product to other Rite Aid locations and kept a small portion of merchandise. It was 50% off the entire store. I overheard an employee asking another one if tomorrow would be 75% off and I think she said yes. That's OK. I got $29 worth of items, some at a really good discount. I just wanted to go for the heck of it. I never went to this one (maybe once as Brooks years ago). It was a cute store and the staff was very friendly (almost like a mom and pop establishment). However, I can understand why it was closing. It was small and the huge Walgreens was literally on the same block. They will be closing next Thursday (6/21). The good thing is that the few employees there seem to have retained employment with Walgreens. So I doubt anyone lost their job with these closings. There are tons of Walgreens stores out there and for now the other Rite Aids in the area like Newington and New Britain are staying put and may actually be converted to Walgreens in a few years.

Just FYI - The Rite Aid website now shows (on each individual location, at least) the ones that have been bought by Walgreens.  Those stores have a note at the top saying so, while others not bought have no notice, so you can tell which ones will remain Rite Aid and (potentially) be sold to Albertsons, if that deal goes through.

Probably also indicated by signs in the stores themselves, but this is an easier way to know about stores you may not be near regularly.

500 Queen Street Southington, CT is closed. (Except for the Walgreen's Pharmacy inside). Hasn't even been open 9 years. It opened in the fall of 2009. The old one at 430 North Main in Bristol, CT closed too. Only thing left in that plaza is a store front branch of Tunxis Community College and a free standing Santander Bank and a freestanding BK.

Flowery Branch GA's Rite Aid Started their Big Liquidation Sale and is Expected to close on the 11th, Yet strangely the Signs were taken Down Early, it's kinda freaky.

giantsfan2016

The 500 Queen Street store in Southington was winding down its Liquidation Sale last week. (Turns out when I saw them closed on the 20th they were in the process of getting things ready for the liquidation). Mom and I went to the Liquidation Sale on Monday the 2nd. There wasn't much left. Basically all they had left were greeting cards and products if you have a major cockroach infestation.  >:D We didn't buy anything. We made out better when they had the liquidation sale at the one in downtown Southington a few months ago. One of the women who works there is so rude and nasty (plus you can barely understand her when she talks) was working that day. I hope she doesn't get a transfer to a location that is staying open.

The Rite Aid in Norwich is closing as of June 1st. Pharmacy has to remain open for another couple weeks due to federal regulations.
This Rite Aid is an old Brooks, in a strip mall between TJ Maxx and Shop Rite among a few other small retailers. It doesn’t have a drive thru, and hasn’t been touched since it converted from Brooks. There’s also a large stand alone Walgreens a mile down the road, so it doesn’t surprise me this store was on their chopping block.
No clearance sales or anything, but the store is stocked with very limited inventory. Only 1 or 2 items of everything in the store pretty much.
This location closed for good last week. Large signs in the window read “This Rite Aid is permanently Closed” and gives the address of the Walgreens down the road to visit.
Meanwhile, down the road at the Walgreens are huge grand opening style flags that say “Welcome Rite Aid customers “.

Perhaps the complete changeover to Walgreens may be coming sooner than expected. The Newington CT store's outdoor building signage has been removed with a Rite Aid banner in place of the Rite Aid signs and a sign on one side of the building states "Open During Remodeling". No work is being done inside and I'm surprised there would be as this location was remodeled a year or two ago to their new sleek design.

Here in Maine Walgreens has assumed the pharmacy part of the operation but otherwise the stores are typical Rite Aids and still distribute weekly flyers.

This whole thing with Rite Aid and Walgreens really sucks. My Mom used to shop at Rite Aid from time to time and all three local stores she would shop at all closed - All on Route 10. Two in Southington and one in Plainville. Plus a 4th in Bristol, which she didn't shop at even going back 15 1/2 years ago when we still lived in Bristol.

That's what Newington is operating as. But I can't see why they'd change the signage if the store wasn't staying Rite Aid. They said it would take up to 3 years to convert completely. My guess is that now that the slew of older/smaller Rite Aids Walgreens closed are pretty much all liquidated, they will focus on those stores that are left and will start the name change.

deerwrecker2017

Here is some footage of what's left of a former Rite Aid that was once located in Monongahela, PA until this one and one that was used to be a Eckerd prior to 2007 (Which is now a thrift shop run by the Washington City Mission) was replaced by a Larger Rite Aid equipped with a Drive Through pickup for prescriptions (Located across the street from the Monongahela City Hall). The roof on this one had collapsed from a Severe Storm a short time back. The building was in the process of being demolished as this video was being filmed (Filmed on 10/29/2018). Who knows what will happen to this site but I think that the site should be sold to Dollar General which can build a new store to replace the current store they have that is located nearby (It  wouldn't hurt them to do so).

TheFugitive

I passed a Rite Aid store that was actually open yesterday (Christmas Day).

It was across the street from St. Clair Hospital in the southern suburbs of Pittsburgh.
These large chains like Rite Aid and CVS will typically keep a couple of stores in each
market open on Christmas Day to handle emergency prescription fills.

I guess having one across the street from a hospital makes a lot of sense.

Bdubs

I was driving through Narragansett RI area and they still had 2 Rite Aids that were open.
Oddly enough, Walgreens had a location the next block over and they had chosen to close that location.

TheFugitive

The Rite Aid on PA Route 51 across from Century III Mall has closed.

That may be due to the continuing implosion of the mall, but more likely their merger with
Walgreens, which has a very large store just to the north at the Lebanon Church Cloverleaf.

mixedday

I like that Rite Aid has a store in the PIT airport, center core concourse. One can actually buy a water bottle sometimes for $1, which beats the average $4 cost one typically spends at Hudson Books or other airport concessions.

TheFugitive

When that airport opened the concourse was planned to be an actual mall.  They were planning to have regular shoppers in there along with people who were coming and going from flights.

They even included contract language in the leases which stated that merchants inside the Airmall must charge the same prices that are found in offsite locations.

Of course 9-11 forced ramped-up security and sort of killed the whole idea of the airport being a mall.  Plus more than half the gates are empty since the airport failed to do what it was built to do, retain US Air's hub.

There is talk of a major reconstruction/downsizing of the airport due to all of these factors.

AmesNewington

The Rite Aid on the Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield, CT closed recently. Not sure when. It was sold to Walgreens along with the ones around it but stayed as Rite Aid. I'm not even sure if they even went through a liquidation sale like the others did last year. It was an older building that housed a Brooks and probably something before that. It is down the street a few blocks from a long standing Walgreens which is probably why it wasn't converted.

The Store Locator on their website still has several stores remaining in Connecticut, mostly in smaller towns. When I drove down Route 6 starting in Terryville and ending Watertown to get to Kmart, there were 4 Rite Aids on the same route. They all remain open under Walgreens ownership (this stretch also had about 3 Adams Hometown Markets). An example of a town with a RA not purchased by Walgreens is Cheshire. They have two.

Brammy

They are doing renovations on the building that used to house Rite Aid at 167 Main Street in downtown Southington. Not sure what it's going to be (if anything) yet. The building was sold to a local developer who owns several other properties in downtown Southington. - It's interesting if something is going into this one because the former location at 500 Queen Street still sits empty and that's in a better area.

Other miscellaneous Rite Aid news. Lately I've heard a lot of Rite Aid commercials on the radio. Also interesting is the fact that Rite Aid remains open inside the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, PA.

Schenectady is now to its last Rite Aid. State St. and Altamont Ave. have closed, and the Eastern Parkway location is presently operating as a Walgreens.  That Rite Aid is on Van Vranken Ave, also soon to be Walgreens. Looks to be a mid-1990s build, app. 1996-1997, has a lowercase logo, and RA1 décor paired with Customer World aisle markers.

Our Rite Aids got the Wellness makeover not long before the Walgreens takeover.

It is weird how many Rite Aids neither Walgreens or Kroger wanted. You'd think Walgreen would want the larger stores over these rinky-dink ones.

A good lot of ours were done between 2011 and 2014, with some done later.

Size and location logic doesn't really apply when over half of Rite Aid stores are soon to become Walgreens or close outright.

Also in the region, the Schodack store closed as of Sat (9/7) and will reopen at the end of the week as Walgreens.

The store in Rensselaer is in it's final week and will do the same process being closed next Sun 9/15

The store at Osborne & Shaker in Albany will follow the week of 9/22

And the Menands Store will finish up this sequence the week of 9/29

Haven't been in downtown, but that is (I think) the only other one in this area not yet converted or closed that is going to (the ones on Western by SUNY, Central & 155 and by HVCC will remain Rite Aid, along with a couple in Clifton Park).

Chatham in Columbia County is also left to convert (their limited 25% off ended 9/7, so it may be a bit as they usually do a 40% for a time before the final 3 weeks of more & more categories with up to 70% off).
