LOWES FOODS TO OPEN
BURLINGTON STORE FEBRUARY 6
Winston-Salem, NC – Lowes Foods will open a new store in Burlington on Wednesday, February 6, at 8:00 a.m. The 42,000 square foot store is located at 1191University Drive.
"Many Burlington residents have been looking forward to having a new Lowes Foods store since we closed our stores in the area several years ago," said Lowes Foods President Curtis Oldenkamp. "We're excited to be reentering the market with a store that offers a much larger selection, along with full service."
The new store will also serve Gibsonville residents after the Lowes Foods in Gibsonville closes on February 5.
The Lowes Foods "FreshSmart" store will feature full-service produce, meat, seafood, bakery and floral departments with fresh, high-quality products, and a deli featuring Boar's Head meats and cheeses. The store will also have a wide variety of groceries, including gourmet and specialty items, and an extensive selection of beer and wine. It will offer prepared foods and a selection of natural and organic foods, nutritional supplements and natural body care products.

Winston-Salem, NC – Lowes Foods opened its first store in Myrtle Beach, on
Wednesday, October 10, at 8:00 a.m. The 47,000 square foot store is located at 1399 South
Commons Drive.

operations along the coast of South Carolina," said Lowes Foods President Curtis Oldenkamp.

Lowes Foods has opened its first fuel station at Sandy Ridge Square Shopping Center in Hickory, NC. The station features 12 pumps that offer three grades of competitively priced gasoline, plus diesel fuel.

Both fuel stations offer Lowes Foods fuel rewards where customers can save on fuel purchases with their Lowes Rewards Card. Convenience items such as cigarettes, drinks and ice may also be purchased at Lowes Foods Fuel.
Lowes Foods began in 1954 as a single store in Wilkesboro, NC, and has grown to become a major supermarket chain operating in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The company grew rapidly during the 1960s, '70s and early '80s. Lowes Foods was acquired by Merchants Distributors, Inc. (MDI) in 1984 and began an aggressive expansion program in 1986, opening 19 stores over the next four years. In 1997, Lowes Foods acquired Byrds Food Stores, located in eastern North Carolina. It continued its growth in 2000 with the purchase of 13 Hannaford stores. Today Lowes Foods operates more than 100 stores and continues to open new stores throughout North and South Carolina.

How are the Lowe's stores in South Carolina dueing??
Lowes Foods is throwing in the towel in Charlotte and swapping stores with Harris Teeter, which is trying to exit more "rural" markets. This dealmaking comes as Publix prepares its assault on Harris Teeter's stronghold.
