I HAVE NOTICED THAT DICK's SPORTING GOODS IS IN SUPER SUPER EXPANSION MODE NOW. LIke 2 years ago I saw one in West springfield mass and the newslibrary archies said that Dick's opened in 1994, and the ones in MAnchester And NEwington CONNECTICUT OPENED IN the mid 1990s. I HAVE BEEN SEVERLY RESEARCHING DICKS
BUT I have noticed this: In 2001 they opened in Williston VT, in 2003 Dick's opened in a former Ames in South Portland. in 2003 they opened in Plattsburgh NY, Millbury Mass Warwick and Smithfield RI and in 2003 they opened in ORange and WaterforD CT and in 2003 they opened in ATtleboro MAss. In early 2005 they opened in Hadley, SEekonk and Danvers MAss, and Canton Ct. in 2004 Dick's opened in Portsmouth NH, Enfield CT, BAngor ME, Queensbury NY (I WENT IN THE MALL THAT IT IS IN AND IT WAS READY TO OPEN), Plainville CT, in 2002 one in Worcester Mass opened.
They are currently starting construction of the one in Concord NH, and are said to be building ones in KEENE NH, and in LEOMINSTER MASS (TO OPEN SOON), NATICK MASs (Old decathalon and said to be open not too long from now) Taunton Mass (in the old Bradlees in the mall and to open soon), starting construction of one in SAugus Mass, Pittsfield Mass in an old Bradlees, Milford Ct, Augusta MAine, Brockton MAss, Plymouth Mass, Rutland VT,
I have noticed the store count quickley came up from 167 to 239 stores. I have seen the Dick's in Portsmouth NH, HAdley (it was under construction when I saw it), WEst Springfield, Worcester, Millbury and Mass, Queensbury (it was one week away from opening when I saw it), and Saratoga NY, Williston VT (THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAW A DICKS and I saw it in 2002). Decathalon sports died just before Dick's was in Super expansion mode, by the end of 2003 only 4 Decathalons were left (Bellingham, Norwood, Burlington and Hanover Mass)
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK OF DICKS AND THEIR SUPER EXPANSION.
For northern new england, Dick's goes along with Kohl's, Target and Lowe's with their super expansion...
I miss Decathlon. I used to go to the Portsmouth store. As of last year, it's still there and vacant. Dick's opened just aside Kohl's in other vacant spots. (see picture)
In Bangor they opened in the former Porteous and theres a store planned for Augusta too. In only a few years, there will be Dick's Sporting Goods in all major cities.
ive never been to one before

I find it shocking Dick's will close in orange to move to Milford! why? the orange store opened a few years ago! and how far is the one in orange from milford liek 3-4 miles? I wonder if Dick's will open in the states it has not opeend in yet. Of all maine areas, Dick's has not comitted to Lewiston-Auburn yet!! I bet it will either come in the vacant 60,000 sf Porteous or the rest of the vacant Service merchandise (part of that store is dollar tree). it is not in nashua, salem or manchester nh yet, I bet it will coem to nashua and salem in one level of the closed macy's buildings that moved to the Filene's in those malls. that is logical. I bet it will open in more palces around boston, as one is under cosntruction in saugus, almsot open in brockton, one is in natick now and one opened in danvers.

Hmm --
Dick's is building a store here in the Westfield Brandon Mall in Brandon, Florida. It should be opened in January. The store will be part of the Mal... but it will be in the OUTDOOR Mall part -- The mall is expanding, but it will be open - not enclosed.
Dick's is building a few more stores in new malls in the Tampa Bay area. Can't wait to get hockey equipment at Dick's.

it says coming soon on the dick's sporting goods webpage in pittsfield mass
Dick's is pretty good, but nothing compares to Bass Pro Shop. I blows Dicks SG away, it's a site to behold. To goodness sake you have to go thru a turnstyle to get into the store. The one I went to was bigger than a super Wal-Mart. It had huge waterfalls, a arcade shooting gallery, huge fish tank, rock climbing wall on the backside of a waterfall that is like 3 stories tall, they even have a boat and atv show room in the store.
correction- Bass Pro doesn't have much sports stuff though. I had all the stuff Dicks has like hunting, camping, hiking, fishing, outdoor clothes and shoes- things of that nature. So they're not exactly the same type store.

There is already a small Dick's Sporting Goods at the Westfield Meriden Square Mall in Meriden, Connecticut. - What if they open a bigger store at the mall? They can have put it in either the first floor or second floor of the former JC Penney. While I don't know how big the existing store is, I do know that the Dick's Sporting Goods in Plainville is bigger at 50,000 Square Feet and the Dick's Sporting Goods at the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester is even bigger than that at 80,000 Square Feet. It might be easier for the mall to lease out the Dick's Sporting Goods space than the giant former JC Penney.
I'm really disappointed with the Boulevard Mall in Amherst, NY demolishing their food court for a Dick's! As I've said before, a mall isn't a mall without a food court! >:(

This reminds me of Southland Center in Taylor, MI. In 2006, they tore down their food court, which lasted 14 years, for a Best Buy. They actually incorporated the skylight tower from the food court into the store!
there is now a Dick's Sporting Goods at the King of Prussia Mall. It is located on the 2nd floor of the former Sears

The old Xpect Discounts in North Haven, Connecticut was demolished for a 48,000 Square Foot Dicks Sporting Goods.

New theater, sporting goods store under construction in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN â€" The new Cinemark NextGen theater on Universal Drive promises to be an entertainment blockbuster when it opens July 22, a marketing manager said this week.
The Rave Cinemas closed recently to make way for the 57,202-square-foot entertainment complex behind it. Cinemark, of Plano, Texas, bought Rave Cinemas last year. The former theater will be demolished to make way for four new businesses.
Cinemark estimates it will spend $16.2 million for wall-to-wall screens in all 14 auditoriums, digital projection and real 3-D capability in several, enhanced sound, a cafeteria-style concession stand, and Cinemark XD, a massive-screen extreme digital auditorium with luxury lounge recliners and 60-plus-speaker digital surround sound.
The new cinema will show movies and live events, including boxing matches and Metropolitan Opera productions, according to James Meredith, Cinemark’s vice president of marketing.
“All cinemas have enhanced digital surround sound, so it’s a great opportunity for people in the area to enjoy high-quality movies and other events,†Meredith said.
During site plan approval, Cinemark also agreed to an easement that will allow for development of the Quinnipiac Marsh Trail at the rear of the property.
Last year, the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special permit to allow Cinemark to serve alcoholic beverages at a lounge inside the complex. Customers cannot consume alcoholic beverages inside the theaters, but there will be a lounge where they can enjoy beer and wine.
“The plan is really a good one,†commission member James Giulietti said at the time of the approvals. “The premises as they sit today are largely in disrepair and the parking lot has been in disrepair for years.â€
Across the street, developers are working on razing the former Xpect Discount store and renovating the 339,000-square-foot- Home Depot Plaza.
“The new building under construction will be occupied by Dick’s Sporting Goods and is expected to open later this fall,†said Nicholas Brown, vice president of development for the northeast region of Kimco Realty.
“The shopping center will also receive various site improvements and a façade renovation.â€
The center is anchored by BJ’s Wholesale Club and Home Depot. Plans call for the demolition of Xpect and to replace it with a new 48,000-square-foot prototypical Dick’s Sporting Goods store.
The façades for the balance of the non-anchored stores are being renovated, and various other site improvements are also being constructed, including a renovated pylon sign, new site lighting, additional landscaping and a new parking lot.
Construction began in March 2015 and the total cost is $8.3 million, according to the Kimco website.
First Selectman Mike Freda mentioned the town’s commercial sector and the Cinemark Theater when accepting a Celebrate CT! award from the Connecticut Economic Resource Center last November.
“Look at these projects and see a lot is happening in North Haven,†Freda said at the time. “I spend a lot of time on economic development and meet with developers, commercial real estate agents and retailers on a regular basis to create opportunities and bring them to positive outcomes.â€

Marc: where was the Rave theaters on Universal Drive? I know there's a Showcase Cinemas on that street.
Showcase Cinemas got bought out by Rave a few years ago. Then Cinemark bought them out, but the Rave in Southington (Milldale or Plantsville) and Berlin (Kensington) were sold to Starplex.

Dick's is having their Grand Opening in Waterbury, CT October 11-13th. Its opening in the former Toys R Us in the Brass Mill Commons adjacent to the Brass Mill Mall.
Dick's Sporting Goods is selling eight of their Field & Stream stores to Sportsman's Warehouse

Likely because Dick's appears to want to get out of the firearms business
and a Field and Stream store that doesn't sell guns would be a joke.

Field and Stream will be better than Dick's. The 3 Dick's here are not managed properly and the employees don't seem to care. I love Cabela's and Bass Pro... The Bass Pro store here has a gun range that rifle teams at schools use for events.
It's unconfirmed at this point, but I heard the 50,000 square foot Dick's in the former Big KMART in Plainville, CT is closing.

In Manchester CT, they have relocated from the mall to The Plaza At Burr Corners (where Pilgrim Furniture / Waldbaum's Supermarket (before Pilgrim) used to be). They opened in that spot just a couple of months ago. That store had orginally been at the mall for over twenty five years before moving over there due to high rent in that property within the mall. They decided to relocate for that very reason.

According to The Manchester Scoop, the former Dick's space at the mall has been leased. They didn't have info on the exact tenant as of this time.
